Documental precioso sobre la historia de la ciudad, del país y del mayor museo de toda Rusia, expropiado a los zares.
Little disappointed at today's haul from the #Hermitage 10k event from #ScurryEvents. One buff, that's not marked as today's run, and the race number. Hoping I've not missed something.
So the #Delta/#KLM debacle continues. I can't depart #AMS for #MSP for another 26 hours. Knowing this now, we're moving hotels and are finally free to explore the great city of #Amsterdam. First stop the #Hermitage !!
And I think Delta is going to buy me some new clothes, some meals, and certainly my hotels.
My Seattle home is named "Tasty Toast" because the walls are various tints of brown and it's well insulated. I jokingly referred to the new place as "Cold Toast" and the name stuck. I'm leaning into the idea of designing the built environment to communicate that it's a high cold rocky perch. A place to raise one's glass to cheer a moment of quiet in a fast era.
I was tagging this topic #hermitage but now I'll use #coldToast. Filter as you see fit.
Just put in an offer on a chunk of forest in which to hermetically seal myself. If I'm going to build a retirement cabin then I better do it while I can still swing a hammer.
Anyway, my thoughts turn to what sort of uniform I should wear. Monks wear robes. Some hermits and ascetics wear rags.
For me, though... Paper jumpsuits? Woven mycelium? Time will tell.
#hermitage
As I drive around the Catskills and Taconics looking for forest in which to build a retirement hermitage, I wonder how much of this is fulfillment of foundational desires roughed in while sacked out in a blanket fort, reading "My Side of the Mountain".
#hermitage
My current idea:
- I build the camper over the Winter.
- In Spring I pack it up with tools and drive it to an empty rural chunk of land.
- I sleep in the camper while I build a small house.
- I live in that small house for 20 to 30 years (if I'm very lucky)
- I trip over a small dog, fall down some stairs, and then nature takes the wheel.

Just finished a tasting of young Santorinis. They were great. But this is what I hate about my wine reviewer job. Too much tasting, not enough drinking! Too many of the wines are projections for the future. BUT I sometimes have the alcohol tolerance left to retreat to my cellar.
Why Having a Cellar is a Good Thing, Part 2 today.
Apart from this La Chap being fresh, intriguing, wonderful and long on the finish, you know what was really great about this? I bought this on release as my small collection then was growing. I can look back now having stored it perfectly for some 30 years. And then open the last bottle at the perfect moment. This is what it's all about.
30 years gone in an eyeblink. (It sort of feels that way!) Whoever I was then, thank you for making good decisions. :) And to you people who don't have a cellar or some other storage solution--yes, I know it's a pain in the ass. Believe me, I know! Figure it out. You'll thank me later.
