Mark SquiresBig Boy Syrah! 15.8%, warm year (2003), but it has some merits--big meaty flavors with a blueberry-vanilla tinge,rich fruit and some backbone. But also, a too-sweet edge I didn't much like, a one-dimensional fruit-bomb style I wouldn't buy these days. This 2003 held decently. It could use drinking, but it hasn't cracked much, if at all. Age is not the big issue. Markus Wine Co.Our morning pick of Berghold Vineyards Syrah looking very good. We've got a solid hardworking crew this year. Here they fill thick cardboard shipping boxes right in the vineyard used to ship to wineries throughout the country. In this case our client requested whole clusters. We also crush or press. The boxes are lined with a thick plastic bag then sealed. A lid is strapped on then it's into our chiller to get ready for a refrigerated truck.
