I read one post that said Pinterest was going to use their ("our") data to train AI and that's all it took to log into the account I haven't use for years and hit "delete"...

But it's not that simple... see, they then send you an email:

"Deleting your account is permanent and means you won't be able to get your Pins or boards back. All your pinterest account data will be deleted."

Im currently doing this: (see weblink). I didnt want to delete my main twtr altogether bc I want to squat my username 'penworks'. Afai am concerned, its my username from 2009 and no one else has a right to that name. I wanted to bulk delete my tweets, but leave a few. Ive made a short video of what Im doing via a Chrome browser, as per the instructions in the webpage. It seems to work. Ill update later with results.

You can't assume that when you mark a #post for #deletion that it will be #deleted across the #fediverse. Whether a post gets deleted on a remote #server is entirely up to that server.

I guarantee you there are organizations and individuals here on the Fediverse right now that are running their own #ActivityPub servers and are #archiving and #cataloging every post, and they are #ignoring any #Delete #requests.

Because when you mark a post for deletion, that's all you're doing. You're requesting the remote server to delete the post from its #database.

And nobody is required to do that.

(Though the vast majority of ActivityPub servers do.)

Editing has a safety feature to prevent bait & switch abuse tactics: when a post is edited, people will still be able to browse all previous versions of it by clicking on the "edited" label. ⚠️ Deleting a post breaks all its replies, boosts, direct links etc, so only use deletion if there is a privacy issue. Editing is better otherwise. #FediTips

An important update for #FediTree just dropped:

- New command: Reply with #delete to delete the generated tree.
- New command: Write "🎄" in your mention to force the bot to re-generate your tree for this year (otherwise it will ignore any mentions after the first).
- Usernames are now included in the alt text, to keep the post clean.
- Accounts with discoverability set to off will no longer appear in the FediTree.
- The bot will tell how many accounts didn't end up in your tree due to #nobot tag or discoverability setting.
- The bot will try to use the remote server API first, and warn that the result may be inaccurate if it couldn't.
