A weird comment in this article about #extraterrestrial #life and what it means for #Earth. Dr Robert Massey, of the Royal #Astronomical Society "believes that the discovery of even simple #alien life would be the latest chapter in the diminution of #humanity's place in the #cosmos". He says "I think the discovery of life elsewhere... would further reduce our specialness". That's an un- #scientific, subjective feeling, and I don't see it makes any difference/...

The video is obviously modern, and it looks like it is several of Sagan's monologues edited and stitched together with modern video clips.

It's using the right music for #Cosmos at the beginning, but whether that's actually from Cosmos I don't know. Sagan did other stuff.

Wow, a stunning image by JWST of an Einstein ring, a more distant galaxy's light being bent by gravitational lensing around a much closer galaxy. The closer galaxy is an elliptical and the much more distant galaxy, which in this case is perfectly aligned behind the foreground elliptical thereby forming the ring, is a spiral galaxy. I think this beautiful image is going to be my desktop for awhile. Just stunning!

Wow wee, wow wow! JWST just keeps raising more questions than it's answering--& that's a good thing! JWST discovered that the toddler galaxy, GS-z13-1--which existed just 330 million years after the Big Bang--had ionized the ancestral neutral hydrogen that surrounded it allowing its light to transverse the universe & reach JWST. Ce cochon galactique fait référence au cochon géant volant au-dessus de Londres lors de la sortie de l'album "Animals" du groupe Pink Floyd. A strange pig, wearing a helmet and vintage aviator goggles, floats in space. It has bat-like wings. Behind it, planets and interstellar gas clouds can be seen. This galactic pig is a reference to the giant pig flying over London during the release of Pink Floyd's album "Animals."

Dark #energy is probably doing something weird, and we don’t know why.

Astronomers just announced they’re seeing more evidence that dark energy — the mysterious substance that pervades the #cosmos and causes the expansion of the #universe to accelerate — is not a constant over time, but may instead be weakening.

It means dark energy has changed over time, getting weaker and changes how we think the universe behaves in a fundamental way.
