Veil #Nebula: Wisps of an Ancient Supernova

The Veil Nebula, a supernova remnant in Cygnus, is the remains of a star that exploded 7,000 years ago. Now faint and sprawling across an area over five times the full #Moon's size, it's 1,400 light-years away and visible only through telescopes. This image captures its glow in hydrogen red and oxygen blue.

Why Did I Build a Dome 3,000km From Home?? (I’m Still Not Sure)

So... I kinda said yes to building an entire observatory dome... on the other side of Australia.

Everyone said we were insane. No crew. No backup. Just a dome, a dream, and way too many snacks.

This video is pure chaos: assembling a giant research-grade observatory from scratch, battling time, tools, and the Australian sun. We got sunburnt, we got stuck, and yes — we had at least one breakdown (maybe two).

But in the end? The dome stands. And we’re kinda proud of it.

Was it smart? Debatable.
Did we finish it? You’ll see.
Was it worth it? 1000%.

Join us for Doors Open Toronto!
Visitors to the observatory will have an opportunity to view our 1-metre and 60-centimetre telescopes, speak with astronomy students, learn what it means to be an astronomer, find out about the latest research and discoveries. There will be guided tours of the building, along with a special Observatory Treasure Hunt.
Smaller portable telescopes will be available for visitor use, weather permitting.

Who doesn't love space? It captures our imaginations and makes us wonder if we are truly alone. This is a great Doors Open option for young visitors and the young at heart.

Visitors should note that there are dim light conditions and stairs-only access (unfortunately no lifts or ramps are available) in the observatory and sturdy close-toed shoes are recommended.
Last admittance will be at 4:30 PM ET.
To learn more, check out the observatory website: https://www.yorku.ca/science/observatory/
