We deserve a #braindrain

The ban on #InternationalStudents would also impact #HarvardLaw's Juris Doctor [the graduate program for every #lawyer in the #US] & Doctor of Juridical Science programs. Each #JD class of 560 typically includes 45 to 50 intl students—about 9%—for a total of about 150 #students spread across 3 classes. The #SJD, which is for aspiring #legal #academics & typically has ~60 people enrolled, also draws heavily from overseas.

Like I keep saying, it’s all #RevengePolitics for the #IdiotInChief.

Claiming #Harvard failed to fully comply with their likely extralegal demands, the admin moved last week to revoke its ability to host #InternationalStudents.

So now it is giving Harvard 30 calendar days to provide written documentation & other evidence “to rebut the alleged grounds for withdrawal.”

#DHS’s move would prevent #Harvard from enrolling new #InternationalStudents & require existing ones to transfer to other #schools or lose their #legal status.

#Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday that #HarvardUniversity should have a 15% cap on the number of non-U.S. #students it admits.

In a letter that day, Noem accused #Harvard of refusing to comply w/wide-ranging requests for information on its #StudentVisa holders…. [Though she cited no law or regulation that the university had violated]

Harvard, the nation's oldest & wealthiest #university, enrolled nearly 6,800 #InternationalStudents in its current school year, ~27% of its total enrollment.

The case before Judge Burroughs was filed after #KristiNoem revoked #Harvard's #SEVP certification to enroll non-US #students.

In announcing the decision, Noem, without providing #evidence, accused the #university of "fostering violence, antisemitism, & coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party." [#FigLeaf]

"We continue to reject #Harvard’s repeated pattern of endangering its students & spreading American hate—it must change its ways to be eligible to receive generous benefits from the American people," #DHS Secy #KristiNoem nonsensically said in a statement.

#Harvard has said losing that right would affect about ¼ of its student body & devastate the school. It has denied #Trump admin fig leaf charges of alleged bias against conservatives, fostering antisemitism on campus & coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party.

DHS claims it sent Harvard the notice after school ofcls indicated an intent to comply w/requirements of the federal #SEVP [but it already does so total BS].

#Harvard had argued that the revocation violated its #FreeSpeech & #DueProcess rights under the US #Constitution. In addition, Harvard contended that the revocation failed to comply with #DHS #regulations. The regulations required providing at least 30 days to challenge the agency's allegations & giving Harvard an opportunity to pursue an administrative appeal.

I’m guess this is not the *type* of #student #Trump was hoping to kick out.

She is considering going to live w/relatives elsewhere in Europe.

“I write to you in profound disbelief,” Kornbluth wrote in a community email late Thurs. “The action the federal government took today to bar #Harvard from having #InternationalStudents is devastating for American excellence, openness, & ingenuity.”
