For a while now I haven't been able to access both mic and earphones of this headset with the plug/unplug/replug dance.

HOWEVER, I've noticed that both are correctly detected by #ALSA (alsamixer shows both, at least), so this appears to be a problem further down the line (either in #PulseAudio or #Pipewire).

I don't suppose anyone has an idea how to debug (or even better solve) this? Google isn't being helpful.

@krishean that's not how #systemd works.

SystemD was created because #SysVinit was shit and noone fixed it or made something better.

#Wayland is the future as #Xorg is being #EoL'd.

  • #Linux as a Kernel works fine, so no reason to replace it.

For the shitty #GlibC we have alternatives like #bionic and espechally #musl!

Gibt's heute also keine Lautheits-Überwachung heute.

@joel I mean, #SystemD wasn't done by #Poettering because he had no hobbies - far from it.

SystemD, like #Wayland and #PipeWire is a "necessary evil" because the preexisting solutions are slow, not adaptive, cumbersome or just don't work well at all (i.e. mixed (#DPI & #HiDPI) screens with #X11 are just broken!

  • People had years if not over a decade to fix those but they didn't and it's clear that a new & clean slate was necessary...

@Okanogen @remenca @Viss @lcamtuf well, you can use those tools seperarely and they ain't hard-linked and you can use #systemd solely as init, tho that would negate much of the benefits beyond the more structured approach to starting daemons as services in the right order per depemdency checking...

Also whilst you may not like these tools, they do in fact solve a lot if issues in big deployments.

Once you've to handle 5-digit VM numbers and 4-digit machines across a double-digit number of locations, you'll learn to love those things because shit just works.

Also #journalctl actually spits out useful errors and tells you exactly what went wrong when a service refuses to start or crashed.

And compared to other solutions like #SMF it's way cleaner, leaner and easier to maintain a system that way...

Not to mention stuff like #pipewire actualls cleans up the mess of #ALSA, #OSS, #Jack and #Gstreamer...

The speaker just said: "...Mediatek heled us (NXP), because until then we were the only ones using ARM, and when they jumped in we could discuss ARM-specific problems with them."

This is what a healthy open source.project.looks like 👍

#linuxtablet #linuxaudio So, I am back on #endeavouros, and the install went flawlessly. Everything is identified and working, and my journal log is clear of errors. I also found a simple way to turn off the undesired #grub theming. #pipewire is installed and working correctly, and I have #Reaper and #surge installed and working. Since I use #alsa for reaper and it hosts my plugins, everything was simply plug-n-play. Both programs scale for #hidpi and I’ll soon test #touch screen capability. 😎👍🏼
