Why is this important? The Trump administration is cutting funding for weather research and forecasting, so lots of scientists have joined together for this live-stream.

Please #boost.

The natural climate pattern La Niña started to make her presence felt last fall. Now, she's on her way out. According to a new National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration report, things have shifted into a "neutral" phase, which is forecast to last into at least early fall. Forecasters are predicting an active hurricane season and above average temperatures nearly everywhere in the U.S. aside from the Pacific Northwest and parts of the Northern Tier. Here's more from @CNN.

[ID: The National Blend of Models (NBM) graphic depicts which areas feature the highest probabilities of receiving greater than 8" of snowfall between 5PM MST on Monday (Feb 20) and 5PM MST Thursday (Feb 23).

Major #WinterStorm to bring heavy snow and an icy wintry mix to much of the northern U.S. next week

• A major winter storm will spread a large swath of heavy snow from the West Coast to the #UpperMidwest Monday through Thursday of next week.

• The combination of heavy snow and gusty winds will likely result in widespread hazardous travel and cause impacts to infrastructure.

• While subtle shifts in storm track are possible, confidence is increasing that this winter storm will be extremely disruptive in affected areas.

• Very cold temperatures are likely from the #WestCoast into the #NorthernPlains behind this system, with record lows possible. The potential also exists for a flash freeze in portions of the northern #Rockies on Tuesday.

• Additionally, a heavy wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain may impact the #GreatLakes and #Northeast later next week. /ID]
