We need #UBI to be enacted & implemented.
We need #UBI to be enacted & implemented.
> giving everyone enough of that to always ensure survival would allow everyone's actual values to flourish
Who is doing the giving is the question.
Particular risks of UBI imho are e.g. lulling people to sleep while AI destroys the entire jobs market, takes firm hold.. and poof.. UBI disappears again.
Another hypothetical: Using #UBI paid by tariffs to hide destruction of gov social support and installment of a fascist regime.
Related: Microfinancing was also broadly abused.
The #WealthGap isn’t just growing - it’s exploding. Wages stagnate while profits soar.
A few billionaires control more wealth than all the other people combined - and with that, billionaires control politics and who is in government!
#UBI doesn’t “punish success” - it ensures #everyone has a chance to succeed. Because no one should have to beg for basic survival in the richest era in history.
@zazzoo @AWolfInCheapClothing Ugh. So should we stop learning? What's the point? Maybe the tech bros should take a few ethics courses and think this through. #UBI
> Universal Basic Income was one of the democratically and officially endorsed demands of the British Women’s Liberation Movement. But unfortunately this fact has become steeped in collective amnesia. An amnesia that may have started at the very moment of the resolution’s passing.

UBI isn’t about making life “too easy.” It’s about making sure life isn’t unnecessarily cruel.
There are enough issues in the world today that we don't need to add financial insecurity to it.
Also, struggle isn’t noble. Suffering isn’t a character test. Fairness means giving everyone the chance to thrive, not just survive.
And you deserve that chance. You deserve #UBI
Spare us your slogans and catchphrases during this election. Too many people are suffering and struggling, and it's very real. We can and must do tangible things to help each other, and elect a government that will do the same.
Remember, you are not alone in wanting a better world and #UBI
There are plenty of people out there who think like you and who also take action. Take action with us and vote for people who want the same future that you want.
One example: @remahformoreton.bsky.social who wants to tax billionaires and create a fairer society for all

Love seeing BIEN stalwart Malcolm Torry interviewed on #UBI, talking history, feasibility and what it could do for society

IF only I had a dollar for ever time I hear that the "system" needs to be changed and that the "system" is at fault and the "system" keeps us in badly paid jobs....
Well, let's change the system. Yes, we can. One example of a country that did things differently in 2008, look at Iceland which imprisoned bankers after 2008 financial crisis.
https://www.vox.com/2015/6/9/8751267/iceland-capital-controls
The economy is supposedly doing well, but your #paycheck isn’t. #Billionaires add millions to their wealth every day, but you’re told to “just work harder.”
What if the problem isn’t you? What if the #system is designed to keep people struggling? What if billionaires and corporations were taxed the same way you are?
#UBI shifts the balance. It gives power back to #people instead of #corporations
Okay:
Universal Basic Cybersecurity. *
For every organisation, the people through the government provide the means (not money but tools, knowledge and information) to have basic information security in place.
This as a response to the “Security Poverty Line” and the abysmal state of information security, especially (but certainly not exclusively) amongst the SMEs.
*) you can probably guess why I don’t pitch it as “Universal Basic Informationsecurity”. Also, just “Security” doesn’t work, because that is (rightly) used in the discourse around UBI. If it is confused with Universal Background Checks, that’s just a happy little coincidence.

Some Universal Basic Income detractors give the argument that it’s going to be expensive, and who is going to pay for it? But it will be temporary. See:
1. LLMs take all our jobs;
2. Everyone gets UBI so they can still buy food;
3. People start dying en masse because of (1);
4. UBI becomes much, much cheaper.
