#TTRPGs, as game systems, are sort on inimical to making the kinds of profits that large corporations like Hasbro are looking for. A good #RPG system is a durable good that doesn't really need to be "upgraded" or "replaced", once a good, balanced set of rules is developed, and that's why the profit potential for the core game is limited.

That being said, the possibilities for setting, scenario, and session are limitless in terms of profitable, licensable IP and goods.

LRT: made me think about the fact that, although I think there's a lot of things about #DnD that I don't like in terms of good game design, I am more interested in playing #TTRPGs than I am in debating good game design. I'll put up with #DnD5E, if it means playing versus not playing.

Hasbro has not been a great steward of the hobby. They would be smart to spin-off WotC into a design studio, and make D&D licensed goods.

The Marvel Superheros RPG I used to love playing in the 1990s used a Karma system. It was the 1980s "MSHRPG" made by TSR. Very complex and quite good system, honestly, although I'm not a gaming expert by any means: neither video, nor board games, nor #ttrpgs.

If you were a good guy, doing good things would increase your karma. Doing bad things would decrease or even wipe out your karma.

If you were a bad guy, doing bad things would increase your karma.

There were many times that the heroes would attempt to neutralize a foe but go just a little too far, leading to the villain dying. That would zero out the hero's karma, a phenomenon we liked to call the "Karma Toilet." IIRC, one of us would actually play a .wav file of a toilet flushing when it happened, or walk to the nearest bathroom and flush a toilet, or something.

Man, the 90s were fun. I really miss constructive boredom and community.

InstagramSide Quest Books & Games | Caroline on Instagram: "⚔️ Calling all adventurers! ⚔️ If you’re looking to join a D&D campaign or find some folks to put together a one-shot of Thirsty Sword Lesbians, this is the meet-n-greet for you. We’ve done two of these since opening, and both have been a huge hit! Groups that met here have gone on to form long-running campaigns that ACTUALLY MEET UP TO PLAY REGULARLY (😱), so not to toot our own horn or anything, but we’re basically gods. How it works: snag a ticket at the link in our bio; get a drink from Nook or Rebel Rebel on your way to the shop; fill out a name tag with the games you want to play, the nights you’re free, and whether you’re willing to run the game; then chat to some like-minded folks and get planning! It’s gonna be gross out on Saturday, so come hang with us and do something fun in our cozy little wizard’s tower. See y’all there! • • • @bow.market #lfgs #dndevents #dnd #ttrpgs"16 likes, 2 comments - sidequestbooks on April 10, 2025: "⚔️ Calling all adventurers! ⚔️ If you’re looking to join a D&D campaign or find some folks to put together a one-shot of Thirsty Sword Lesbians, this is the meet-n-greet for you. It feels like there has to be something for #TTRPGs as a medium beyond copying theater, TV, film, radioplays, etc.

Imitation is self-destruction. What does this medium do that others cannot?
Strip away the idea of storytelling being the goal and really consider it. I wanna see it.

We played a two hour one shot of The Dragon's Egg today at library game day. I had a strong table with four PCs who did successfully steal the dragon's egg.

From the DM's perspective the time flew by and the players all enjoyed it too.

The Dragon's Egg features exploration, puzzles, and combat. Combat is performed with pools of D6 dice. PCs start combat with 5 D6s. You lose dice if you're hit or if you roll all 1s. when you run out of dice you are unconscious.

This is a filipino martial art that includes the whip as a weapon. This is a 55s video of an instructor demonstrating the whip as a weapon. If you want to visualize wielding one in combat. It's p. intense apparently

Let's take this from the top, one last time.

I'm Diotima (obv not my real name) and I'm:

- A tiefling (horns and a tail, yes)
- Kind of obsessed with #BaldursGate3
- Writer of stuffs, SFW and NSFW.

I'm silly & weird. But my soul is also full of broken glass and rusted metal. Consider that like, fair warning.

Likes: #BG3, #ttrpgs, #adventure, #spicy things, and #travel.

Dislikes: Reply guys, fashies, and other icky things.

So there. That's it. That's the #introduction.
