#Startpage refrains from using #Google's AI-generated search #slob results like AI Overviews or AI Mode. Startpage delivers Google's traditional search results without the AI-generated content, maintaining its focus on privacy and unbiased results.

Startpage offers several key advantages over Google's AI-enhanced search:

No tracking or personal data collection

No AI-generated overviews or summaries

Encrypted connections that remove your IP address

Prevention of price trackers and more.

Why do people complain about #Google when #Startpage exists? 🤔 This privacy-focused search engine offers Google's results without the tracking! 🕵️‍♂️ Enjoy anonymous browsing, no data collection, and unbiased results. Plus, it's based in privacy-friendly Netherlands! 🇳🇱 #PrivacyMatters #StartpageSearch

I have been using #vivaldi for about a week now and I enjoy it. However the default search engine is awful. #startpage is garbage. I get their premise and wish them luck, but when I search for blue sky - the first link should be bluesky. Instead I got 5 links that have nothing to do with bluesky.

FYI: Keep in mind that this page DOES have GoogleManager as one of their trackers. If you use #PrivacyBadger, and /or #StartPage whatever it is (it's an add-on for #Firefox) I would assume the option to block trackers would solve that problem.

@doener oh shocked surprised not...Dump everything #google they have been evils for way too long. They are no longer a #searchengine. Use #DuckDuckGo #StartPage #Mojeek #metager whatever else you want - use several if possible - you will see different results from each search engine you use....and block ads and tracking - Go to eff.org and download all their wonderful free #privacy tools. You will be safer, and happier too! And turn off #AI on your #iphone

@lauren I have been begging people to leave gmail for years...I have mentioned #protonmail which has served me well, and I use several search engines - #DuckDuckGo, #Mojeeck, #StartPage, #Metager - No #tracking - #privacy even a bit of privacy, is better than none. Folks, please leave the #BigTech ecosystem asap. We are here, so that is a huge step. #facebook, #instagram, #TikTok are just as perilous for everyone, even more now post election. Be safe. #mastodon #fediverse #choice #civilliberties

@raimue I was in a similar situation some years ago. I moved to DDG and, at first, I found it a bit weird. However, I soon got used to DDG-style results and realized that I was too much tied to G-style results. After that initial phase, I have been more comfortable using different search engines and sites, such as #duckduckgo, #mojeek, #brave, and #startpage. Now, I barely use G and, when I do, I find it quite weird. The situation remembers me to 1999 and Yahoo...

I am also sick of the nonsense results on #Google lately (yes, I know about ?udm=14, but that also removes helpful stuff). For example, my browser language is set to English, but I get links to the version of Reddit threads that have been auto-translated to German.

I guess I might give #DuckDuckGo, #Ecosia, or #Startpage another shot. But I actually liked the personalization Google did, because search results included what is close to my interests. It also felt like Google had the best auto correct of search terms. Maybe others have improved since I tried them years ago.

The Fediverse is unique.

My survey asked what your favorite search engine is.

51% said DuckDuckGo, 12% Startpage, 9% Ecosia and 4% Qwant. Only 6% said Google and 1% Bing. 17% said they preferred another search engine, with many mentioning Kagi and Mojeek.

This is quite different from what the market share out there is, which shows how unique you all are here in the Fediverse. You make your own choices and do not follow everyone else. Be proud.

Oo, tentative glee: I switched to using #Startpage (dotcom) for my daily search needs on Friday, and I have yet to find a problem with it. The results so far are exactly like Google's, minus 100% of the bullshit. The company does what it advertises and hasn't made me hate them with design choices, spam, or similar -- yet. I'll report back eventually as I try it longer-term, but for now, maaaaybe exciting \m/
