Their customer service and tech support has been fabulous so far.

I'm in for ~120 with them and I have a 4c+ 4gb, 5 8gb, 1 firebeetle? Esp32 and 2 esp32 with 3 mp cameras with timers and wifi. 1 as part of m5 stack with case and battery!
Really, I've just gotten way into nerding out on the #fediverse and it's potential for resistance. The next logical step is #SelfHosting a portable instance in an old Soviet oscilloscope scope case, of course.
But, those concerns should give everyone pause. I'm still not convinced on best alternatives to free #Cloudflare tunnel to protect home ISP.
Still not sold on the name, either.
#Solardeck #Fediport #Solarport #Solarpunk
What about?
If it has a solar panel=Solardeck
If it is just a portable instance = Fediport
It it is Fediport + Gemini capsule or accessories = Fedideck
"Chewie, we're home."
#SBC #SelfHost #Instance #Rock4c #ESP32 #Gemini #Capsule #Fediverse #Fediport #Solarpunk #Solardeck
#SolarProtocol #Akkoma @gotosocial @benda
#Resilience is #Resistance
Something along those lines has definitely come up in threads around #SelfHosting a portable instance.

Ad-hoc wifi was mentioned, but that's way above my paygrade.

My goal for this year is to have a portable self-hosted instance (#Fediport) with at least 3 connection (Ethernet, wifi & bluetooth) and charging options (solar, 12v and 110v)
Other cool related things that I found out about are #Gemini capsules and #solarprotocol
http://solarprotocol.net/guides.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemini_(protocol)
I would like to incorporate the Gemini capsule, on an #ESP32, into a #Solardeck and use #yunohost to manage the two.
A #Fediport, or fully modded-out a #Solardeck, is the thing that I'm trying to create to contribute to the #Fediverse, of course!
A metal case that holds at least one #SBC like a #RaspberryPi alternative, Rock4C+, a rechargable battery, and multiple connections and charging options to keep the instance operating but portable.

Ideally, it would also contain a #Gemini capsule, LCD Screen and Bluetooth keyboard, HDMI out, solar and a #HAMRadio as accessories, of course!
I think that I will build mine out of the Soviet oscilloscope in first post, but it can be a simple metal, acrylic or #3dPrinted box. It doesn't even need a screen because you can use external monitors.
The best alternative that I found was Fundly. If you are interested in the project but would like to ask more questions, please fire away!
I decided to give it a go and see if people wanted to participate in something new and different.
The plan, as I currently see it, should proceed in steps. The initial crowdfunding goal is to construct 2 #Fediports. 1 to use #SelfHosting a new #Fediverse #instance and another to sell to pay for the building of 2 more Fediports.
This should both support the Fediverse and raising capital to form an instance-owned non-profit. All decisions going forward would be up to a vote of the mon-profit instance members.
The full #Solardeck, made as a working demo to portably host the instance, will consist of a #SBC Fediport and #Gemini #capsule. This will give BT, WIFI & FIber connectivity. Cell SIM & #HAMRadio as add-ons.

I'm liking this Rock pi 4 c+ shipped from the US, actually.
Has 2 hdmi and wifi&bt without adding on a board.

Plus it already has wifi & bt without adding board on.

Seems hard to beat, right?
Plus it has SATA for faster accessing of portable #SSD!

What's the best alternative to a #RaspberryPi 4?
(Did they ever address their huge PR problem?)
I'm looking to #selfhost an #Akkoma #instance & have my own little piece of the #Fediverse.
Hoping to build a portable instance in this old Soviet oscilloscope housing.
What do any #Solarpunk or #Cyberdeck people think about it?
Is #Solardeck a thing?
I'm picturing an lcd touchscreen, solar panels and wireless keyboard and ideally be a portable #Akkoma instance
I would hate to have to go back to reddit to discuss this!
Please check out the post above for #poll
Full disclosure, the nice Russian man that gave me the oscilloscope said that it's like they were building things in another universe. He said that the way they built it just doesn't make sense.
So Vitaly is; 1) Russian 2) the most ingenuitive #engineer that I've ever interacted with.
Of course, not being able to read what all of the dials do isn't helping!
Which would you feel more comfortable learning to use?
A brand new #JEOL #SEM (Scanning #Electron #Microscope)
or a semi-functioning Russian 80's #Oscilloscope? Read disclosure in next post before voting
3rd option would be using the shell to make a #Cyberdeck or, even better, a #Solardeck to use when #JohnMastodon calls.
