I was in the shack and was notified that @N4JAW was on, but regrettably couldn't hear him. I did hear some peeps sending "CQ MST" — had to look that up, but it's what I would have thought it was. (I do SST regularly.)
Cranked-up the keyer WPM to 20, and logged one right at the end of the hour. But yeah, 20 WPM is a stretch for me.
And for the #AmateurRadio #HamRadio afficienatos, here's the cluster of antennas at the #ChewsRidgeLookout in the #SantaLuciaRange. The trailer appears to be a repeater maybe for the Sea Otter Classic bicycle ride that went through Carmel Valley yesterday? It didn't have any exposed solar panels so either under the opaque plastic roof there was a panel or it's a temporary setup that's only powered by batteries.
Highlights from #hamradio field ops at the shoreside park today included a 5 year old girl asking her mother excitedly about the radio with lots of TOTALE MUNDO! exclaimed back and forth (“can it reach to Milano? Istanbul? YES?! YES!")
More on my recent #HamRadio rant. I got banned from a forum thread because I challenged what the #ARRL is doing to bring in the next diverse generation of licensees. I was told that the league has great resources available.
The great resources? Example: There is an upcoming event in which old guys will be asking young Girl Scouts for their name, address, and phone number so that they can send NTS messages (with that information shared on-air by each handler in the path) to the girls parents as a demonstration of how interesting #HamRadio might be to young girls.
First, this is creepy. Second, NTS messages? RLY?
I had a QSO with K8L the #NationalLibraryWeek special events station. Yep. I'm getting a QSL card! #hamradio is a natural in #libraries

Pure excitement over this ambitious 6 degree #SSTV reception from #ISS over EM78 Louisville, KY. USA on 4/13/25 1553 UTC @ARISS_Intl #iss #ariss #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
Hmmm, I've discovered Echolink and am intrigued. Reading the documentation. Don't even need a radio! #hamradio
Not sure what, if anything the current #Iss crew has done but my current reception of #SSTV images are the clearest I've ever received. Thanks #NASA and @ARISS_Intl #ariss #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
A little treat for a pain filled Ssturday
Made a 2m FT8 contact from here in Northern Maryland to the Virginia/North Carolina state line.
262 miles on 70 watts with the homemade loop and the Kenwood TR751

I could have a program ping my Windows 11 laptop that connects Wires X to my Fusion / C4FM repeater and when it detects a continuous set of predefined ping unresponsive replys it will send a message out the USB or serial port to the Kantronics paging TNC. The Kantronics would send the message over RF to my pager with a message “Hey dummy, Microsoft Windows 11 locked up again and now the repeater is offline.”
Yes, I think this is a great future project.
Operating as W7P for the Polio on the Air event on 7028 kHz. #hamradio https://nars.narwhal.be/polio/
Wow I just had my first FM satellite QSO on SO-50 and it was with @wd9ewk ! And he was at Canyon de Chelley National Monument US-0908. Thanks, Patrick!
Right after that I had a QSO w/W5QZ in TX.
I need to figure out how best to record audio from these sessions as the GD-77 does not have a recorder. I'll use my phone recorder next time, which will make logging a lot easier.
Fun!
just remoted in to my home radio while at an emcomm #hamradio meeting using tailscale…
I want there to be some sort of xbox style achievement notification to pop up IRL when I do something this nerdy.
If anyone is interested in helping offset the cost of the last few bits for the @KJ7OMO repeater (feedline and antenna related accessories, and shipping costs) and wants some cool gear, I've got a special for you:
Coupon Code "KJ7OMO" entered at checkout will get you 10% off orders over $30
Today I had another crack at repairing my #sony CRF-320 #shortwave #radio - and we have success!
The degraded foam block on the power amplifier board had become conductive (known issue). Having removed it all and cleaned the board with isopropyl, it’s now working at normal volume. Medium wave dial is broken (that’s a job for another day) and the tuning meter needs replacing. But great to hear it working again. Cindy was also very impressed, as you can see.
My first time ARDF (Amateur radio direction finding). Very fun! I found all five checkpoints!
80m was nice but 2m awful :). I was surprised that it was this way. 80m works very "directional" and 2m is all around and the direction is affected by environment a lot.

#hamradio operator astronauts on the ISS are transmitting a series of slow-scan TV images honouring human spaceflight. Received with an ordinary VHF/UHF amateur radio transceiver and free MMSSTV software. Just a simple vertical antenna.
