"The current, misguided support for #RawMilk by #MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) influencers makes the historical damage done by unpasteurized milk, especially to small children, worth remembering.

"In 1900, 13 percent of American infants died before their first birthday; 20 percent of all children died before their fifth birthday. Most died of diarrhea caused by bacteria-laden milk."

Urgent Care · The Raw Truth About Raw MilkBy Urgent Care

"Why Right Is Obsessed With Eating Raw"

🧵1/3

This video has a content warning: lots of flesh, organs, and milk, and assholes.

I am going to have to insist on a hypothesis:

Fascism is carnism in decline.

The youtuber there is not vegan, unfortunately, but I do appreciate the effort to point out a few of the associations between ketobros and carnivores to fascism. She manages to talk about class/status in the last third of the video; much less about hierarchy.

A pilot study found that acidification of raw whole milk (with citric acid) to a pH of 4.1-4.2 for 6 hours resulted in complete inactivation of the bird flu (H5N1) virus.

There was an indication that the effectiveness of inactivation may be dependent on fat content of the milk.

These pH levels are within the range resulting from fermentation (4.0-4.5).

Only 56% of Americans understand that raw milk is risky, or why. And this isn't just about bird flu. They don't realize there's an increased risk of salmonella, E. Coli, listeria and other kinds of potentially deadly food borne illness. And 32% believe that pasteurization is an unnecessary intrusion of government into our lives.

And a new preprint paper coming out of Cornel university suggests that aging raw milk Cheeses may not inactivate H5N1.

CIDRAPU Penn survey shows only 56% of Americans understand drinking raw milk is risky

@chessert

That's bad but try this on for size:

We have #MAGA morons guzzling #rawmilk, where the possibility of it being infected with #H5N1 is *sought after as a positive feature*

To own the libs

We're completely fucked

"Mark McAfee, founder of Fresno’s Raw Farm and the Raw Milk Institute, said his phone has been ringing off the hook with 'customers asking for H5N1 milk because they want immunity from it.'"
