It has been a very Seattle-like star of the summer.
Don't let you weekend go to waste, consider sending a talk proposal to #seagl2025 before it is too late. New deadline is June 30th!

@stephencoyle presented his Kilnettle Shrine Talking Tape Dispenser as a Lightning Talk at the @oshwassociation 2025 Open Hardware Summit. He was kind enough to send me one to build.
Yay!! I'm going to DEF CON! Our submission for demo lab was accepted and my colleague and I will be bringing the open hardware PAPRa project.

While I'm on my way to my interview with the developers of the #openHardware Bluetooth speaker #MYND from Teufel, I have the #tangara in my ears for the first time - how fitting! Great device, many thanks to @jacqueline and the whole team
I am in hell. Son's iPad has a corroded power port and of course they can't open or fix it sooooooo...

The phone speaker of my Teracube 2e no longer works. The reason I bought a Teracube was because it was designed to be repairable -- but Teracube no longer sells the necessary replacement part, so, short of finding another identical Teracube and cannibalising, it is in fact not repairable.
Does anyone make a phone which is #OpenHardware, with a published bill of materials, which could reasonably easily be repaired even if the manufacturer went bust?
My latest blog post: I presented at the 2025 Open Hardware Summit

Apologies for the break in blogging, but I've spent the past month preparing for, and then giving, my 'VanSpoof and F**dG3ar' talk at the 2025 Open Hardware Summit.

Another piece of cool, open source, user repairable #linux #hardware ordered because #accessibility focused guides on user-repairable hardware basically don't exist. I can't wait to evaluate it and make a post series about the experience. Maybe with some videos! I need a Patrion or something if I keep this up, but oh well. It's fun and people seem to enjoy what I have to say. #mnt #linuxHardware #a11y #openSource #foss #openHardware
Long before smartphones became walled gardens, there was OpenMoko. Launched in the early 2000s, it was one of the first truly open source smartphone projects with open hardware, open software, open everything. The Neo1973 and later the FreeRunner aimed to give users full control, down to the bootloader and radio firmware.
The idea was radical for its time. Developers could tinker with the kernel, replace the UI, or even rewrite the modem stack. But poor hardware, high prices, and limited polish meant it never took off commercially. Still, it left a lasting impression on the DIY and privacy-focused communities. OpenMoko was a vision of freedom in your pocket, long before most people realized what they’d given up.

Oh no, Openbuilds goes out of business
The CEO Mark Carew invented the V-Slot extrusion in 2013. We use them on the Bear because the V shape offered an easy alignment during the assembly and more flexibility for the printed parts (no support needed).
