It's not always very helpful to look at AI models in isolation, essential is the way that they are implemented, how weak aspects are mitigated through the use of other models or algorithms. In that respect i think Gemini 2.0 looks like a good building block and step forward in many ways. The true multimodal character and text/image/sound input and output, offers exciting possibilites.

I tried running a picture of our dogs through two multimodal models to compare the results. I asked both models what kind of dogs they were and what it thought their names might be.
The model on the right got the breed right and understood the assignment.
The one on the left got the breed wrong and kind of whiffed the name part. But I appreciate its observations at the bottom.

Boosted this earlier but it's worth emphasizing: Hochul's stated justification for suddenly canceling NYC's congestion pricing is bullshit. She said it's because business owners fear reduced sales if people have to pay (more) to drive into the city. Guess what, the petit bourgeoisie are full of shit! Shocking, I know. Business owners consistently underestimate how many of their customers reach their shop via walking, biking, or public transport. Evidence shows that increasing options for non-drivers usually boosts sales in businesses that are affected. (Also, one of the business owners Hochul claims to have spoken with denies ever talking about congestion pricing with her.)
