I'm excited to find more wildlife lovers and photographers on here.
One of the pink pigeons (Nesoenas mayeri) around Ebony Forest Chamarel.
In 1991 only 10 individuals remained in the wild, thanks to an intensive species recovery programme, the population increased. It's the only Mascarenes pigeon species that has escaped extinction.
Intensive management is still needed for their survival.
Supplementary feeding, the installing of nest boxes and the control of introduced predators such as rats are a few of the undertaken measures.

@fedi_meta I still think that #IndianOceanTerritory should've been returned to it's natives, the #Chagossians, to form #ChagosIslands and decide their own fate - whether they want to join #Mauritius or bei #independent or even whether they want to allow #US #troops on #DiegoGarcia anymore or not!
I did a video on the forced expulsion of #Chagossians last year. The UK is now giving most of the #ChagosIslands to #Mauritius (not to Chagossians) but keeping the largest (one of the only habitable ones), #DiegoGarcia, because of the US air base there.
