I'm excited to find more wildlife lovers and photographers on here.
One of the pink pigeons (Nesoenas mayeri) around Ebony Forest Chamarel.
In 1991 only 10 individuals remained in the wild, thanks to an intensive species recovery programme, the population increased. It's the only Mascarenes pigeon species that has escaped extinction.
Intensive management is still needed for their survival.
Supplementary feeding, the installing of nest boxes and the control of introduced predators such as rats are a few of the undertaken measures.
