Just finished up a real nice two hour conversation with some of the hams back where I used to live via #AllStar. Man I miss those guys.

I've talked to a couple of hams here and they all seem to be
#emcomm guys who aren't interested in rag chewing. I joined one of their nets the other day and it consisted of nothing more than jumping from repeater to repeater to make sure they were all still working in case a disaster strikes.

They seemed friendly enough, but emcomm is not the reason I'm in to
#HamRadio.

@wdlindsy too many #trumpers in my local #hamRadio clubs for me to see them as #safeplaces. #ARES #RACES particularly so. (#CERT, not so much because it largely led by #blackwomen & run by #FEMA). How would they respond to communications #emergenies in 75% #AfricanAmerican #princegeorgescounty? I began to lose interest in local #emcomm years ago when "teammates" indicated that they wouldn't #volunteer in #sketchyneighborhoods 🙄. #america is #sketchyneighborhood for #blackfolks.🤔 #blackmastodon

Farpoint Farms (Erik) on YouTube makes a good case for why we all might want to consider owning an old-fashioned analog #scanner for use during emergencies - even if most of the comms around you have moved over to digital ~ #EMCOMM #Helene #DisasterCommunication #Hurricane2024 #HamRadio #AmateurRadio ~ youtu.be/BX7EH708Jd0?si=jZDKYI

Talk about Effective Communications. The MD governor reported the ship called a mayday and the traffic going onto the bridge was stopped before the collapse.

No sense of how much time passed or when the mayday was called in relation to the collapse, but it couldn't have been very long.

Strong work! Strong Communications!

Last week's @RATPAC #emcomm panel had several memorable quotes that I really hope we follow up on.

The one about professional emergency services people avoiding #hamradio people and actively discouraging incorporation of hams into plans was hard to hear.

There was a strong consensus that the way forward was "more training" and "appear professional". A quote was "don't show up (to volunteer) dressed like you live under a bridge".

#hamradio #emcomm #acs #ares A contact of mine at CalOES tells me they are trying to fill a spot for All-Hazards Communications Unit Leader (COML) course. The course will be held on April 24 – 27 at Ben Clark Training Center 16791 Davis Ave., Riverside, CA, requires ICS 100,200,300,700 and 800 as prerequisites. Ping me if you might fit that profile.
