Mark Dominus
I have a very nice HP Color LaserJet MFP M283fdw. It has a scanner with an automatic document feeder.

On the Linux side, I usually use `xsane` to scan. This works when I put a document on the document glass. But it doesn't work with the ADF. When I tell xsane to use the ADF, the scanner sucks the documents through the ADF as it should, but then xsane pops up an error dialog that says "failed to start scanner : document feeder out of documents" and doesn't seem to have any scans.

I *did* get it to work with the `scanadf` command, so there's nothing really wrong, just some software confusion.

I have two questions:
* Is there something I can do with `xsane` to make it handle the ADF correctly?
* Is there an alternative to `xsane` that might work instead?

#linux #scanner

Eugenia L
Here are the results of scanning my painting with different apps. The two proprietary ones scan well (after epsonscan was made to work at all, that is), but XSane is applying extra contrast that makes it lose dynamic range. Even changing brightness/contrast in its settings doesn't give you back the DR, which means that this filter is applied before the user filters are.
