Came to pay my respects to Alan Turing. Very moving.
The apple he holds represents Newton, the tree of knowledge, and forbidden love. It is also a reminder of Turing's death.

Our latest preprint:
It is very useful to be able to measure the properties of individual cells in relation to their neighbours in 3D tissues, but it is also complicated & difficult
The talented Matt French devised computational approaches that helped us overcome many of these difficulties
This helps us work out when where & how cells make differentiation decisions by talking to their neighbours during axis elongation
Hope it's useful! Comments welcome
Hello!
I'm a synthetic developmental biologist at The University of Edinburgh.
I'm interested in understanding how cells influence their neighbours in mammalian models of #DevBio and disease.
I use #SynBio to identify neighbours of cells of interest (e.g. healthy neighbours of mutant cells), and to engineer cell behaviour in response to these interactions.
I do this in pluripotent #StemCells and their derivatives.
I look forward to keeping up with everyone's cool research!
Hi everyone, we updated our paper on cephalic furrow mechanics with an exciting evo-devo twist :)
What can this fold tell us about the interplay between genetic patterning, tissue mechanics, and the evolution of morphogenesis?
Hey there!
I'm a French researcher in developmental biology, focusing on mammalian sex determination and gonadal development at the genetic level. I have a PhD in bioinformatics but I do wet and dry lab.
I am a free (as in freedom) and open source software advocate, formerly actively involved in FOSS groups.
I love dataviz, photography, classic rock music, and playing video games.
I moved from another Mastodon instance.

Hi #ScienceMastodon. We, @Dev_journal are a community journal covering all areas of #devbio. Development is led by Editor-in-Chief James Briscoe & published by the not-for-profit @Co_Biologists.
We will toot about #research papers, #reviews, #interviews, charitable activities, and news from @the_node.
We’ve moved over to our own instance @biologists.social, & hope that you’ll join us there for friendly chats between biologists!
Hi #ScienceMastodon. The Node (https://thenode.biologists.com) is the community website for and by #devbio and #stemcell biologists, where you can read the latest news and stories, check out jobs and events pages and interact with colleagues from around the world.
The Node is run by the journal @Dev_journal and its publisher, @Co_Biologists.
We’ve moved over to our own instance @biologists.social, & hope that you’ll join us there for friendly chats between biologists!
Hello #BiologyMastodon
I'm a prof of stem cell and developmental biology in Edinburgh. I'm here to hear about your interesting research

I also love music, and if I like your paper I might suggest a theme tune for it

Hi everyone!
The Vincent lab twitter account completes its migration to Mastodon.
Follow us for cool #DevBio science, mostly working with #Drosophila. We are generally interested in the signalling activities that control patterning, growth and apoptosis in epithelia. Our #morphogen of choice is #Wnt.
Here you may also find the occasional rant from JP once he gets used to the new format. Until then, this account is mostly managed by postdoc Ines.
I've created another account on another instance for toots which are *not* related with the scientific community:
@cyclotopie
So here @jocelyn_etienne I'll toot in English about #OpenScience #ScienceMastodon #Research in general and the scientific communities I belong to, #biophysics, #AppliedMaths, #DevBio
@cyclotopie will toot in French and English about #society and #citizenship topics, and also #books, #films,...
Hi #ScienceMastodon, time for an #introduction!
I'm an #EvoDevo biologist interested in how tissue #mechanics influences the #evolution of #morphogenesis. I study a deep and mysterious epithelial invagination that forms at the head-trunk boundary of #flies during #gastrulation, known as the #CephalicFurrow (see video below!). Currently, based in Germany as a postdoc in the Tomancak Lab at MPI-CBG. Looking forward to meeting you!
#science #devbio #devbiol #stemcells If you set up a Mastodon account (any server is fine and broadly visible there) please add the address to your twitter profile (mine: @kkroll). Then everyone can use the debirdify app to gather followers/followed from Twitter and import them/connect with them on Mastodon with a couple of clicks!
After scoping out Mastodon for about a week now, it's probably time for an #introduction
Hi I'm Alex, a Reviews #Editor for @Dev_journal, a community #journal covering #devbio, #stemcells & #regeneration. Development hosts the #devbiol community blog @the_node and is published by the @Co_Biologists.
I'll mostly be tooting about amazing #devbio research and conferences, and occasionally about personal stuff like #books, #reading, #gardening and other adventures on my bike or #kayak.

My lab at Washington University School of Medicine studies transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of brain development, using human stem cell and organoid and mouse models. We are interested in defining networks that regulate formation of particular neuronal cell types and learning how these are disrupted to cause neurodevelopmental disorders like autism.
#introduction time!
I'm Les, I've been a research tech at Washington University School of Medicine in the Chen lab for the past 2 years - we study the epigenetic shift from pre-malignant to malignant skin #cancer
I'm planning on pursuing a PhD in #devbio or #cellbio, ending up doing research + #scicomm
outside of science, I love coffee, my cats, doing mutual aid work, studying relationship theory, and continuing to be a learner in all fields!
Excited to be here
#introduction
I study #development and cell #signaling using #Drosophila. In my lab at #UMass Boston, we use #proteomics, #genetics, #imaging, and a bit of #biochemistry to study mechanisms of organ #growth and tissue #patterning. We like to discover and analyze #protein interaction #networks. Current interests are #Hippo and #ERK signaling, and control of #brain development. And no one can escape from #Notch.
Go #DevBio!
