#Palestinians did not revolt. The #Arabs did, and for that they earned their freedom and #ArabianPeninsula. British never promised #Palestine to Arabs. It was dreamed up by them in the #DamascusProtocol (see hashtag).

Arabs dreamed up #DamascusProtocol on their own with no regard to Palestinians

The #KitchenerTelegram gained something in translation that #British had not intended — involvement of #Arabs DURING the War

So a "clarification" was sent, which made matters worse

Secret societies of discontented Arabs in #Hejaz (#Arabia) immediately latched on to these signals and drafted the #DamascusProtocol, not for #Palestinians #inTheirName, but for their OWN power

In any case, #Britain did not owe Palestinians anything because the latter never fought the #Turks to help the British

It was #misfortune compounded by #misunderstanding.

These Turkish intrigues collided with:

2. Subsequent #British intrigue to dangle independence to #Arabs, albeit with loosely defined borders, in exchange for their support in #WWI

3. #DamascusProtocol cooked up by secret #Arab societies and presented to #Hussein without British knowledge

#US #imperialism was notably absent when this #MiddleEast mess was created

They reserved areas where #Britain had existing treaties with #Arab chiefs (Aden to Principalities on East Coast)
