'There's no Canadian dream' says an Albertan wanting Canada to become the 51st state because he thinks he’d make more money.

cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/ca

But there’s “peace, order, and good government” to guide us in the Constitution. Money isn’t everything.

‘We don't even love each other’ says another one. Americans love each other so much they have shooter lockdown drills in schools because they don’t want to take away each other’s guns.

CBC'There's no Canadian dream': Meet some who want Canada to become the 51st U.S. state | CBC NewsAn Angus Reid Institute poll suggests one in 10 Canadians would vote to join the U.S., if there were a referendum in this country to become the 51st state.

Canadians say Trump’s vision for Canada as an American accession is insulting, infuriating and — increasingly — a serious threat to their national security. A U.S. invasion may not be imminent, they acknowledge, but they believe that Trump’s insistence on tariffs against Canadian imports is a real effort to weaken the country’s economy to a point that annexation might be a more serious consideration.

Here is the full letter as printed :

I was mildly dumbfounded when I stumbled upon Mr. Crawford’s recent letter (”Alaska joining Canada is a brilliant idea”) extolling the virtues of Alaska joining Canada … and double-double-dumbfounded when I realized it was in response to Mr. Jones (”Alaska, let’s make the first move”). Is this a movement?

I may be just a “southerner” down here on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, but I have had the privilege of entering Alaska waters on my family salmon troller in the 1990s. It was a rather fraught time back then with the “Salmon Wars”, but today is an entirely different boatload of fish.

Alaska becoming Canada’s 11th province would be exciting for us, to be sure, and I can see myriad wonderful benefits for both parties, particularly when it comes to the reconnections between Indigenous nations. But there is one thing I would want to make clear and I think I can speak for the vast majority in my country.

I would want the decision to be by and of Alaskans first and foremost, and followed by a decision of Canada’s people to welcome you in.
As likely as it may be that we would both say “Heck Ya, eh,” respect for each other’s sovereignty to make that decision legally and peacefully, must always be of the greatest importance.

🇨🇦 Shout out to the Canadians who have been emailling the Royal Watch newsletter at the BBC about King Charles! 🇨🇦

"But there is no avoiding the tensions and contradictions in this balancing act. Emails from Canadians to the BBC's Royal Watch newsletter show that many want a much more robust defence from the King.

"What a cop out! Throw Canada to the wolves. Giving us back pats for our flag's anniversary doesn't quite cut it. Here sits a monarchist who is seriously rethinking his allegiance to the crown!" emailed Brian, a Canadian military veteran.

Carol in Vancouver was unhappy at the invitation from the UK for a second state visit by President Trump.
"I feel ashamed for the Brits feeling they have to follow through with inviting such a boor for dinner. For the life of me I do not understand why he has this power over you," she wrote.

"As a Canadian, the invitation is a slap in the face to the people of Canada. If the King is our King (as we are a Commonwealth country), and Trump is basically at war with us, how dare King Charles give him any credence?" emailed Patricia.

"As a Canadian I am saddened, appalled, disgusted and angry that King Charles appears to be joining the conga line of supplicants," said Jo-Ann in Ontario.

But King Charles will have to keep to the line set by ministers, and if that means maintaining good relations with Trump, he is unlikely to be saying anything more outspoken.”
