Even though ‘glacial’ is commonly used to describe extremely slow, steady movement, a new study has found that #glaciers speed up and slow down on a daily – even hourly – basis in response to changes in air temperature, #rainfall and the #tides

There is a story attached. What you see is normally beach.

A combination of overnight sculpting of the sand, strong wind and high tide brought about an unexpected and rapid inundation.

I spent the afternoon on a sand dune, cut off by swirling flood waters.

High tide came and went at just the right time. Scary. Has given me a new respect for tide tables.

Coastal engineers are predicting very low #tides in the #UK later may be the lowest anyone will see again.
A low spring tide caused by the position of the #Moon and #Sun will create the "exceptionally" low tide, said #Exeter-based #MoffattAndNichol.
It said with sea levels rising, such a low tide may never be seen again.
It follows a 2022 report showing #SeaLevels are rising much faster than a century ago.

This is the biggest #tide on Earth, and it's in #Canada.

The #BayOfFundy is on Canada's East Coast and it sits between #NovaScotia and #NewBrunswick. And it's enormous.

Twice a day, these waters ebb and flow, and in some places, they rise up to 18 metres — that's nearly 60 feet.

At low tide, the waters recede up to five kilometres, leaving behind 1,000 square kilometres of mud.
