I built my website using @enhance_dev a couple years ago but I feel like I should use a more popular #IaC framework for deploying to #AWS like #CDK, #SAM, #Terraform or just raw #CloudFormation.
The problem is, I'm spoiled; Enhance makes #serverless so easy. I find myself just reimplementing all it's features; file based routing, html templates, session management, etc.
#Terraform is great because it is not simply for one provider/one cloud. You can target multiple clouds in the same Terraform configuration. It doesn't have to be multiple clouds, the more generic term is multiple providers (e.g. #Azure + Entra ID)

Ya love to see it
Looking to simplify your cloud setup?
In this video, we walk through the basics of using AWS and Terraform to quickly deploy systems—including FreeBSD, in a scalable, test-friendly environment.
What you'll need:
- An active AWS account
- Terraform installed (Homebrew works well on Mac)
- Your AWS credentials
- This is a great starting point for trying out FreeBSD in the cloud.

Hey everyone! The #Ansible and #Terraform guys are going to fight in the parking lot at lunch!!! Who wants to go and watch with me?!?
I have a hard time liking #Terraform, especially its syntax

tfmcp simplifies Terraform management by letting AI assistants like Claude Desktop handle config, plans, and state via the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Built with Rust, it offers robust security, Docker support, and detailed analysis. #Terraform #DevOps

If I don't want to use #Ansible and I'll only use #Terraform if I'm being paid to, what are my other options if I want to say, deploy #Caddy plus some kind of Fedi server and have it repeatable?
It looks like Jet was an alternative but the creator ran out of steam.
[I realise I am basically asking for #Docker but I would like to try something else]
Today's task that I don't want to do but needs to be done is manual Terraform state migrations.
Développement informatique
I am doing Terraform crimes, snatching the ENIs out from under an ALB so I can attach security groups.
The official provider has no LB SG attachment resource (thanks stalebot!) and the Kubernetes load balancer controller would introduce a cyclic dependency.
Woohoo! I did a new thing!
I now have my own domain name: badnetmask.dev, registered with Porkbun. Soon I will be using it for all sorts of crazy things. Stay tuned!
In the mean time, you can check out this neat page with all my links. It has been deployed using a Little Link container, as an Azure Web App, automated using Terraform. Eventually I will blog about this adventure.
Welcome to my new "homepage"!

Sometimes it feels like Ansible is a lot more friendly with home lab and self hosting than Terraform. A lot of things I want to do with Terraform do not have official providers, while Ansible does have a lot of official modules.
I'm not looking for a solution, just making an observation.
@arichtman *cluster api instead of #terraform and #terragrunt - tg makes it a lot nicer to work with tf, we still have to make use of the tf helm provider for a handful of things like #karpenter but outside of that the TF has been painless after the initial dev on all the modules.
Wrapped up an awesome 6-month bioinformatics #Python -> #Terraform -> #AWS gig. Open to new telecommute Python / #Golang / #Perl software stacks, database thrashing / analytics, or DevOps / cloud infrastructure work.
Thanks for any leads, boosts!
Dream job, resume on my blog: https://notes.jays.net/blog/resume/ #GetFediHired #FediHire
Day 418. The issue with the shit from day 417 is, when having multiple #Terraform resources that represent the same underlying #Azure resource, they run into race conditions. When deleting all security contacts for the same subscription at the same time, the deletion of all but one 'azurerm_security_center_contact' resources would fail.
howdy, folks - it's been a bit since our last #hachyderm infra check in.
stuff in motion:
- ditching #terraform cloud & tf for #opentofu and #atlantis. we are just about to import our dev environment and put it through its paces.
- bringing #postgresql under ansible management. the team has been doing awesome work, and we've started to spin up dev nodes using the new playbooks. soon: production!
- moving #DNS zones away from AWS route 53. we chose bunny DNS as our provider and have been doing basic tests in dev. we'll likely prep our records for production this week with a plan for a cutover in one of the coming weekends.
and if you filled out our volunteer form and haven't heard from me in a bit - you're still on the list. we'll onboard a new batch of folks in the next couple of weeks.
