Tomorrow there is a concert by a man who many see as a biggest Croatian patriot. I see him as a war profiter and a fascist.
There is a thin line between patriotism and #fascism. His songs provoke violence and call to arms. But no, he is a patriot, a night of righteousness, a defender of all that's Croatian.
The loudest of his fan club are the roughnecks, and generations born after the war. Many of his songs are about the war in Croatia and injustice that was left behind forgetting to mention that horrible things were done on both sides.
In a war there are no winners, all are losers.
So why do "children" who never experienced the horrors of war find his songs relatable? It's must be the injection of super nationalisms that they received through his songs.
His fans are big patriots who drunken brake glasses and bottles, waive national flag, salut in a fascist manner, highly #homophobic, praising #God and kneeling every month on the main square in Zagreb to promote return to a traditional patriarchal values in our society. They are the protectors of Croatian ways, knights in Thompson's army to protect Croatia from all evel, mostly foreign ways and gays.
His concerts were band in many countries. Politically it was not advisable to get yourself in correlation with Thompson. But since fascism is on the rise in Europe, and the world in general, I guess we have to keep up with the fashion.
It's sad, embarrassing and tragic all at the same time.
