It is unethical, and in most countries (including the UK) illegal, for employers to silence employees and prevent them from expressing their solidarity with Palestinians. We invited all those working in language schools and in ELT organisations to show their solidarity today, and we invite you to continue to do so every Friday until Palestine is free.

We call on language schools and ELT organisations to make it clear to all their employees that their workplace is one where the right to free speech is respected, and that it is safe for employees to show their solidarity with Palestinians.

ELT Professionals for Palestine stands with the employee at EF Brighton who was banned from wearing a Palestine solidarity badge.

EF Brighton cited a ‘no slogans’ policy that had never been enforced before, and told the employee that slogans for other causes might be permitted, but that this one - for Palestine — would not be.

The time for false neutrality is over. It is clear to anyone who is paying attention that the state of Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians. The ICJ has confirmed, along with many international and Israeli organisations, that Israel is an apartheid state, going back decades. As South African anti-apartheid activist Desmond Tutu said, ‘If you are neutral in times of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.’
