That Old Guy With the Beard<p>I have now finished the series of six episodes, and can whole-heartedly reccomend this show.</p><p>You get to hear from musical artists what certain effects on sound have on them, why they choose them, and how the effect change and alter the artists’ view of their work.</p><p>What’s best about all of this is it’s not the usual suspects saying “okay, here’s how I made that iconic riff” which can be interesting, but you get “here’s why I made that sound that way” which is much more fascinating!</p><p>I really hope Mark Ronson does more of these. They’re downright inspirational to me!</p><p>Very highly recommended. </p><p>★★★★★</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/review" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>review</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/documentary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>documentary</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/CineMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CineMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/AppleTVPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AppleTVPlus</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Music</span></a></p>

Journeys In Film<p>New at Journeys in Film: the Resisterhood Learning Guide! Inspire Civic Participation with this new resource.</p><p>Resisterhood is a testament to the strength of ordinary Americans in our extraordinary times. The award-winning documentary follows six diverse Americans as they fight for social justice on the streets and in the halls of power. Over the course of two years, we watch a Muslim immigrant (Mimi Hassanein), an octogenarian Black civil rights marcher (Margaret Morrison), the great-granddaughter of a Suffragist (Dr. Jean Gearon), a Puerto Rican power couple (Luis and Soraida Gutierrez), and an LGBTQ activist (Joanna Lohman) work to protect our rights and inspire others to get involved in civic participation. 1/n</p><p><a href="https://journeysinfilm.org/film/resisterhood/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">journeysinfilm.org/film/resist</span><span class="invisible">erhood/</span></a></p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/film" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>film</span></a></span></p><p><a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/USPol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>USPol</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/Documentary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Documentary</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/Protest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Protest</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/CivicEngagement" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CivicEngagement</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/BackToSchool" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BackToSchool</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/Education" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Education</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/Homeschooling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Homeschooling</span></a></p>
That Old Guy With the Beard<p>I am only half-way through the six episodes of this series and am already smitten.</p><p>The historical &amp; socio-artistic influences of both ‘auto-tune’ and ‘sampling’ were informative and fascinating. But the examination of ‘reverb’ was hypnotic.</p><p>I thought ‘echo’ and ‘reverb’ were two different things. They are not. They are two different ways of thinking of, or labeling, the same thing: the sound of sound in a space, and what that space does to the sound. I finally have wrapped my head around that; as well as what a pre-amp, amp, and whatever effect you want to layer on top of sound are. Even if you layer nothing more than just a teensy bit of tone or reverb on top of the sound (and what shape of reverb), it changes things and evokes where the listener and artist are meeting together.</p><p>It’s both simple and complicated; natural and artificial; subtle and blunt.</p><p>You can make a sound blossom, or destroy it.</p><p>Now I want to stay up all night experimenting.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/review" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>review</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/documentary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>documentary</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/CineMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CineMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/AppleTVPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AppleTVPlus</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Music</span></a></p>
