I found my foot-shaped darning egg and am, as predicted, full of glee. I’ve included a photo of it inside a sock heel with my hand gripping it, so you can see the idea. This sock doesn’t need darning, but if it did, the wooden form inside it would help support the sock and also keep me from accidentally sewing through two layers while darning.
Edit to add some more alt text I’d meant to put in before.
Really pleased with this #visibleMending job using duplicate stitching.
1/ My new #VisibleMending project: This linen-yarn T-shirt is a memento of my dog, who once got stuck at the bottom with his claw and tore a hole. It's darned in the shape of a yellow beetle. To make the whole thing more harmonious, I'm going to do a few small appliqués elsewhere today. @visiblemending
My latest attempt at #darning is probably my best yet!
I'm really happy how tight the weave is, and that I managed to avoid messing up the tension when I took it off the #speedweaveloom to finish the top, which is when it usually goes sideways
gear repair day! some first attempts at visible mends on my favourite thermals
I'm looking into a darning loom - I mean those thingies, that come with a bunch of hooks that are fixated over a wooden base with an elastic thread (speedweave or whatever they are named).
Are they as useful as they look in the pictures?
I have jeans, that get thin in the thigh area and I'm pondering, what kind of mending would work best. And also - those woven patches look kind of cute ...
Any input more than welcome. Sizes? Yarn (thickness, material)?
Perhaps you remember my about a new #VisibleMending project: https://mastodon.online/@NatureMC/109711176108409819
It will be part of a presentation in our #museum and #culturalheritage centre. I finished the #darning wild and intuitively. And was so fascinated by the colours that I worked on a textile #brooch (not yet ready) as an optical counterpart. I can even wear it without the #jumper! #embroidery #InstinctualStitching #WildStitching #ChaosEmbroidery #TextileArt #ArtistsOfMastodon #AtelierTetebrec #Collage
Maybe someday my #mending will be insta-worthy #inspo but today it was an exercise in frustration. So I’m sharing the best of a bad lot and reminding myself that #DoneIsBetterThanPerfect. #darning #VisibleMending #MakeDoAndMend #handsewing
Realizing I never did an #introduction. I'm Amelia McNamara, an assistant professor of statistics. I love #data, especially non-traditional data like text. I'm an #RStats nerd to the extreme, and my research focuses on how computer tools can support statistics/data science learning. I love looking at #DataVis and wish I got more opportunities to make it, although teaching it is fun, too! My hobbies include repairing my #Volvo240, #Darning, and reading speculative fiction.
