Looking for CMS advice
Hey Web devs!
Do you have any suggestions, tips, opinions, dos, don’ts about headless CMSes?
I have a growing list of small/mid non-profits and collectives asking for my help to (re)make their website. I totally want to help, but I don’t have much time, especially considering that they generally have little or no funding—I would most definitely point them to @VillageOneCoop, otherwise.
Therefore, I want a super simple and replicable solution where I can copy-paste most of the code, while providing them with a stable, fast, and modern solution. I had a look at the Headless CMS section in the Jamstack website, but I need opinions from people who actually used some of that software already.

Please, boost this and ask around! Links to videos, tutorials, and resources are welcome.
People whose perspective I would really value: @zachleat @harryfk @deno_land @jaredwhite @vanillaweb @stefan @mxbck @WeirdWriter @deadsuperhero (Sorry if I am spamming you!)
Still on the look out for work, contract or full time. Must be remote unless you have offices in Spain.
Over 20 years of experience doing: #UX/UI, design (web, product, service), front-end (#CSS, #HTML, #JS), #PHP (#kirby, #craftcms) and more recently #React, #NextJS.
My last project was NextJS with React - I did most of the things listed above. A design engineer or front-end designer role would be right up my street.
Would be nice if you do work that gives good belly feels.
Folks, here's an #introduction post. I'm Travis Smith but equally often go by Nep. (It's a nickname.)

Bespoken, the Craft CMS text-to-speech plugin, has been updated to version 5.0.6. This release adds a preview feature that lets you review the automatically generated narration script before sending it to ElevenLabs. https://plugins.craftcms.com/bespoken?craft5 #craftcms
Gotta say I'm pretty happy with converting my website from WordPress to Craft. I'm able to match the performance, scoring 98/100 in PageSpeed Insights and A in GTMetrix. WebpageTest is also showing great responses. I haven't yet had to do any complicated queries, but out of the box it's been pretty smooth developing so far. Would recommend.
Weekend project: finally got around to building a site for my wife’s boutique (~10 months after the opening ). Not much to it, but it’s something! https://rbresale.com/
There’s a custom parallax effect for the little image gallery, and the map was hand-illustrated. Built with #CraftCMS and hosted on Craft Cloud, of course.
Just wrapped up a bunch of element collection improvements for Craft 4.10 and 5.2, inspired by Eloquent collections. https://github.com/craftcms/cms/commit/0fbc77bd4bf30087f5fe401c7cba20dddd6e24b7 #CraftCMS
It's #CraftCMS v5 upgrade week this week.
I now have one site with 132 separate field types. I'll be honest - even on a site I've done all the IA on and all the implementation on - this is a little intimidating. I don't yet know what consolidating fields and entry types looks like.

Been doing some stress testing of different CMS's today as a continuation of the CMS size comparison last week. Kirby solidly outperforming the rest here too

Plenty of things to work on this week, so of course my brain is more interested in rebranding my online persona everywhere as “furioursus,” including moving my personal identity website to https://furioursus.dev this week.
Never mind i have to upgrade Oakland’s #CraftCMS website version to v4 and launch a new tech company’s marketing website by EoW, i should kill my old OBL persona in favor of a new domain and identity!
New article published -> “Making Twig Macros Work Like Functions”
Ever wished you could use Twig macros more like functions that returned values so you can manipulate them in @craftcms ? Well, you can! #craftcms #twig https://nystudio107.com/blog/making-twig-macros-work-like-functions
We now have a plan for Craft 5’s database schema improvements, and I CAN’T WAIT to implement them. The result is going to be a simpler codebase and *drastically* faster element saves on multi-site installs. #CraftCMS
The bad news about that feedback I got is that it had me looking at completed code again unnecessarily last night. The good news? I found a couple of optimizations.
By pulling in certain elements via GraphQL it cuts down on database polling with Twig. One of the big reasons the front page is so heavy is that to do the randomizer I have to pull every story in the database. Rebuilding it in GraphQL means I pull only the elements I need, which takes way less time.
My Laravel Valet setup, which I use for local #craftcms development, randomly broke this week after being very functional for a couple of years. No clue why it’s not working—everything I’ve tried just has not worked—but it’s probably a sign I need to move to something else.
I guess I should do an #introduction post.
I’m a Software Engineer focusing on PHP and React, helping my team be proficient by not re-inventing the wheel, designing happy path patterns, encouraging use of software and design patterns that are idiomatic to their communities, and best practices at large.
I sell add-ons for #ExpressionEngine and #CraftCMS on the side at https://www.buzzingpixel.com.
I’m also trying to get healthier and more fit, which is a challenge as a software developer.
