照手 [Terute] : Name of a legendary princess
桃 [Momo] : Peach tree(P. persica)
There are two types of peaches. 桃[Momo], for the purpose of obtaining fruit, and 花桃, for the purpose of admiring the flowers. 花[Hana] means flower. The one in the photo, Terutemomo, is one variety of the hanamomo, and it is characterized by branches that grow only vertically, also known as 箒桃. 箒[Hōki] means broom.

From Muromachi times new varieties of cherry blossom, all born from the Ōshima-zakura, began to appear.
Known as 'sato-zakura' (サトザクラ/里桜 lit. 'village cherry'), this group comes in a myriad of shapes and colours.

speaking of purple things that are blooming, this was from a week or so ago - a purple leafed plum tree doing it's thing
(not a very drought-tolerant plant so I'm not sure why people have them here except that they're pretty. I've seen lots of them around Tucson)
I've been taking care of our older son, who is in his mid-30s. You might think it would be the opposite with his old man, but this is Japan, and unconditional love can appear one-sided. He is an IT manager in Tōkyō and can work mostly from home, or from our home. Since he has been living in such an urban environment, I took him on a nice nature course in northern Kyōto City from Kitaōji along the Kamo River quite a distance north, to the great shrine Kamigamo Jinja, and then to the Kyōto Botanical Garden (京都北部の北大路駅↬鴨川沿い↬上賀茂神社↬京都府立植物園). In all we went over 12,000 steps, and our son also conked out when we got back.

Kitano Tenman-gū (北野天満宮) in northern Kyōto City is a major Shintō shrine combining national treasure architecture and plum blossom viewing at its best in these photos. Please enjoy the humor of the last one.

Die Hyazinthen blühen im Garten. Bienen tummeln sich auf den Blüten. Mit dem Sigma 105mm Makro-Objektiv habe ich versucht, die Bienen auf den Blüten bei ihrer Arbeit einzufangen. Gar nicht so einfach, denn die Bienen sind sehr schnell unterwegs.
