Azam Ali - El Rey de Francia - Portals of Grace 2002
Often overlooked about the Holocaust is Spain's role, under fascist Franco at the time. What did he do? He ordered inactive complicity. The linked article is a good one.
Even if Spanish Jews came to Spanish embassies and consulates in Germany or occupied Europe, officials were instructed to do nothing even though they were all well aware of what was occuring in the extermination camps.
December 31, 1939 in his end of year address Franco said:
“Ahora comprenderéis los motivos que han llevado a distintas naciones a combatir y a alejar de sus actividades a aquellas razas en que la codicia y el interés son el estigma que les caracteriza… Por la gracia de Dios y la clara visión de los Reyes Católicos, hace siglos nos liberamos de tan pesada carga”
"Now they understand the motivations that some nations take on to fight and remove those races that are characterized by greed and interest…. By the grace of God and the clear vision of the Catholic Monarchs, centuries ago we freed ourselves from such a heavy burden.”
Jewish people had lived in Spain for centuries during the Moorish rule of the Iberian peninsula.

This Moroccan Passover Apricot Cake Is Lighter Than Air
With flavors of almond, orange blossom and citrus.
By Joanna Nissim | March 31, 2024
“Pellebe” is a Judeo-Arabic word used by the Jews of Morocco, who mainly hail from Spain. As well as for Passover, this popular cake is often made for birthdays and other celebrations throughout the year. It is often layered up with the orange marmalade called ma’azumor and sometimes also topped with meringue, making it extra decadent! Some start or finish the Yom Kippur fast with a slice of the cake and a coffee that has sweet egg cream added — and any leftovers are, of course, served as a breakfast cake, I see no better way to start the day!"

Jewish schools must embrace Sephardi and Mizrahi culture
What do students learn about Sephardi and Mizrahi artists? What melodies are used in prayer? How are holiday programs structured?
By TY ALHADEFF
"...Our resources on the devastating impact of the Holocaust on Sephardi & North African communities will provide useful guidance for many Jewish educators and be able to offer a more thorough & comprehensive lesson plan.
We are excited about the potential to create change on a large scale in day schools across the country. Adaptations and adoptions of Sephardic pedagogies and worldviews into modern educational spaces can naturally help Jewish schools become more inclusive of all students, especially those who are ethnically & culturally diverse. With this approach, schools will be able to provide students with a deeper & more accurate understanding of Jews worldwide & in the United States in particular..."

How Israel’s Black Panthers radicalized its Mizrahi Jews, and changed the country by Andrew Silow-Carroll March 17, 2024
"...[Golda] authorized the police to arrest 15 people under what today is called administrative detention, where you don’t need to bring actual charges. This was in the emergency code enacted by the British...
And of course, it backfired. Anyone with any kind of liberal leaning in Israel was asking, “Why are you arresting people?” Word gets out very quickly that raids are happening. And then every bohemian, every left-winger, every kind of professor, all these respectable people descend on City Hall to join the protest. And then they marched over to the police station where some of the Panthers are being held & demand their release. And that taught the Panthers a lesson that what they were doing was very provocative and...they knew that they were onto something.

#Introduction:
My name is Robbie Norlyn! I’m a published author who primarily writes science fiction and fantasy for sale to the public. Anything else I have written, about a wide array of topics, is academic, private, or public domain.
I have had a wide variety of occupations over the years. I’m an #artist, #engineer, #scientist, and #technologist by way of experience and training.
My #AlmaMater is the #UniversityofWashington. Where I completed a #BA in #Philosophy. More specifically the school of #AnalyticPhilosophy with a strong focus on #science. However, I have a vast knowledge of #ethics and #theology due to my environment as a youth.
Why #Babka?
I’m #Jewish by descent (both sides, #Ashkenazi & #Sephardic) and am becoming more spiritual as I get older. I was raised in a #Secular/#CryptoJew environment. I grew up with Jewish memes & traditions without understanding any of their importance. Dreidels, Fiddler on the Roof, Passover, and Shel Silverstein are burned into my memories.
I'm looking forward to today's Greek Jewish Festival in New York City, at the synagogue Kehila Kedosha Janina on Broome Street on the Lower East Side.
It's from noon to 6 PM. Lots of good food, music and dancing.
This year's Greek Jewish Festival in New York City (a street fair with lots of good food, music, and camaraderie) will be held on Sunday, May 21, from noon to 6 p.m., in and around the Kehila Kedosha Janina synagogue on Manhattan's Lower East Side.

According to #GPT3, re my last name:
"The last name #Pérez is a common surname in many Spanish-speaking countries, particularly in #Spain, #Mexico, and other Latin American countries. It is derived from the Latin name "#Petrus," which means "rock" or "stone." The name was originally given to people who were believed to be #strong and #dependable, like a #rock.
Pérez is the most #common surname in Spain, and it is also one of the most common surnames in Latin America. In the United States, the surname Pérez is more common among people of Hispanic or Latino descent. It is also found among people of Portuguese and #Sephardic #Jewish heritage.
The origin of the surname Pérez is difficult to trace, as it has been in use for many centuries and has spread to many different countries. However, it is generally associated with the cultures of Spain and Latin America."
