@benroyce @SUp3rN0va @jhy001 China's governance is building socialism with Chinese characteristics. It has a communist party over 100 million comrades strong. That party has presided over a massive improvement in the standard of living in their country; indeed at the expense of reform and opening up to capitalism, but with the party retaining political control.
They are trying to wrangle capitalism in a way that hasn't been done before, and may not succeed. It's certainly possible that the capitalist bourgeoisie could take over. But it's hardly a guarantee either.
Ultimately, when you describe "capitalist" China, capitalists around the world get mighty antsy. They would much rather a "capitalist" China that looks a lot more like the capitalist United States. That alone should be reason enough to hold off on declaring China a lost cause.

#Canada's highest court is set to hear arguments on Tuesday on when a young person can be considered an adult for sentencing purposes.
The result may reshape how Canada sentences #youth and could, a lawyer told #Reuters, set an example for other western countries to follow.
Back in 2018, Beaver Lake Cree filed for an #AdvancedCostOrder - #ACO - to secure funds from #Alberta and #Canada in order to continue accessing #justice for their #TreatyRights case, a case which will protect their people and territory from further expansion of the Alberta #TarSands and other #ResourceExtraction industries if successful. But, the cost of litigation for a case this momentous was more than the #FirstNation could front. That’s where the ACO comes in.
After six years, and reaching the #SupremeCourt of Canada ( #SCC ) — #BeaverLakeCree Nation will now receive $1.5 million annually from Alberta to continue their Treaty rights case!
The decision for a yearly contribution is a welcome relief, allowing the Beaver Lake #Cree Nation to move their case forwards while managing costs across their community needs.

"Today, the Federal Court upheld our plan to get weapons made for the battlefield off our streets. This ban prohibits 1500 dangerous weapons – those used in some of the worst #MassShooting in #Canadian #history.
We are committed to making our communities safer. We welcome today’s decision."

Prosecutors in #BC have withdrawn cases against nearly 150 protesters who were arrested for participating in a blockade around old-growth logging on #VancouverIsland after a judge this year found #RCMP Mounties did not read the full text of a court order to the group.
The action comes hours after the Supreme Court of Canada #SCC said it would not hear the Crown's appeal of another protester's acquittal.

It looks like #Twitter 's new shift to login requirements for viewing accounts and tweets also blows up #Nitter and its #RSS functions.
This kills any view I have of Twitter. No big deal there.
More importantly to me, if kept in place, this move will effectively kill @scc_bot , which sought to replicate the Supreme Court of Canada #SCC Twitter feed on Mastodon.
My condolences to those who use that tool. It was fun while it lasted.
Remarkable.

With some late-breaking acknowledgement of the very new details released last night by CTV as to the nature of the allegations against Brown.
