I wish Spectrum Cable were on here so I could blast their butts. I finally unpacked their suitcase-sized box with a "new, faster" modem today. After taking the shrinkwrap off, I found that mine was pre-broken. 🤬 The box was the size of a suitcase, & looked perfect when FedEx delivered it. It was also mostly empty space. At the bottom right, the cable company name, Spectrum, is stamped into the plastic. A semi-circular crack extends from the bottom right corner of the modem, up into the name, and then curves back down to the left, back below the name.
The giant box delivered by FedEx containing the new, yet physically broken cable modem (on top of the box). The box is on my coffee table. The box also contained some pieces of paper, 2 small cables shrink-wrapped together, and a power adapter. Below the box on a shelf is the tape measure I used to measure the box before taking out all the stuff. It measured about 2112 cubic inches. I imagine the modem was broken before it was shrink-wrapped, but ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

"Ontario’s proposal to eliminate bail in all cases for certain offences is a direct attack on due process and a violation of the #Charter.

A charge is not a conviction. This proposal would send innocent people to jail for years for crimes they did not commit.

To be clear: #Ontario is proposing that a person with no criminal record facing a weak case should now be sent directly to jail until a trial takes place – a process that could take up to three years.

It is expected that the encampment will cease in its current location as of today. I (speaking personally) hope very much that this is a peaceful and respectful day, as it has been for the entirety of the protest.

I hope VIU resists its own threat to call in the RCMP. And I hope this is not the end of peaceful protests on campus, for any issue.

But I fear the precedent and message sent at VIU (and many other institutions in Canada) is clear. Universities are not safe spaces for protest. The expectation that they are places for open and vigorous debate has been shattered.

At their core, Canadian Universities are just another colonial institution based around colonial confrontation and limiting of rights of people, particularly Indigenous and minorities.

The notion that VIU or any Canadian Institution is changing and acknowledging past wrongs is a whole bunch of performative nonsense. Decolonization? Ha!

It’s just more of the same. Assimilation. Like Israel razing Gaza to the ground so it can swallow it whole and destroy the Palestinian people, the assertion in Court of Canadian Universities private property rights over the Charter rights of its community and the un-ceded Territories of host First Nations, make them complicit and actively participating in Canada's Genocide.

Instead of flying in private #jets, the rich should have to #charter commercial jets. Their charter gets them and their #entourage the #1stclass cabin. They let an airline broker the economy class, and whatever seats get filled at whatever price less the brokerage fee offsets their charter cost.
And all the business/extended legroom seats are donated free to pet flights, vets/emergency workers, special needs ppl, nonprofits and anyone marginalized or who can't otherwise afford.
