Hey #Railway Fedi - I've been looking at what I can about the plans for Canfranc and the Pau-Canfranc link ahead of the reopening of the line on Monday. The French information makes a lot of pomp and circumstance about the new TERs that will be running by 2032, and a mention of 2 long distance return trips per day through the tunnel from Pau to Zaragoza.

Except... I can find no mention at all of how they're hoping to deal with the gauge issue. There was never a gauge changer at Canfranc, as it was never included in the TEE. I can't find any mention of a new one being constructed. I have found mention of a feasibility study to convert Zaragoza-Canfranc to either standard or dual gauge, but that seems ambitious given the 2032 time frame given it's 188km of track, and Adif only just finished renewing the Jaca-Canfranc Iberian gauge track last month.

So... How are they hoping to do it? Can anyone point me at some report, or source on the matter?

A new Madrid-Lisbon high-speed train will cut journey times from ten hours to three.

A new high-speed train route linking Madrid and Lisbon aims to be operational by 2030 - when the two countries will be co-hosting the FIFA World Cup.

The two capitals have not been linked by a direct train since 2020, when Spain's state-owned rail company Renfe discontinued its overnight train-hotel service.

Incidentally someone asked me as they were very confused that they couldn't buy a ticket for Barcelona at the (SNCF) ticket machine. No Renfe machine around. The train was anyway sold out for last-minute sales, but that must be really confusing, and they for sure got no slower alternative proposed via regional trains if they really needed to get there today or tomorrow. #CrossBorderRail #SNCF #Renfe

How to do it anti-effective:
1. Annonce the train track only 4 min before departure
2. Have only one stairs (plus elevator) to access the platform.
3. Place the train away from that access.
4. Close off half of the (already narrow) platform.
5. Check tickets on the platform.
6. Have passengers finally get on.
7. Leave with a 10 min delay
