Ubuntu 25.04 Plucky Puffin is about to be released!

The upcoming version of Ubuntu, the Plucky Puffin, is about to be released. This marks a very important step towards making Ubuntu more exciting because of awesome features to be introduced that streamline your user experience.

Last night, the Ubuntu release team has released the following highlights:

  • Final images of Ubuntu 25.04 are not yet published because of more testing, but the team has indicated that the release is “progressing as planned.”
  • The release upgrade program fixes have been released to Ubuntu 24.10 to allow users who are using Oracular to upgrade to Plucky
  • Some bugs, such as libvirt and a potential bug in the Ubuntu Cinnamon flavor, have appeared but are not release-critical.
  • RISC-V images for the server version of Ubuntu have been finalized because the team claims that RISC-V builders were slow.
  • A GRUB EFI bug has been discovered that is apparently limited for server installs that are ZFS encrypted.

Additionally, the upcoming version of Ubuntu, Questing Quokka, now has a release schedule, along with the desktop images that are waiting for the crash dump test.

We’ll inform you when Ubuntu 25.04 Plucky Puffin gets released.

Ten years ago, I really enjoyed drawing puffins, badly. If I drew any today, my puffins would look even worse. I really suck at drawing. These are the best puffins I've ever drawn. As you can see, they're hyper-realistic. 😂

Here is Newfoundland and Labrador, 🇨🇦 with its provincial bird the Atlantic puffin and flower the purple pitcher plant cover the hand-carved map of The Rock (and Labrador). The block was inked ‘à la poupée’ (with different colours, black, orange, lime and burgundy, in different areas) and printed by hand on lovely Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper.

A new post for my newsletter Beaks & Bones is live!

This time, I write about young puffins that strand on beaches at night because they are attracted to artificial coastal lights during their maiden flight.
