The show came up in Parliament today during #PMQs, with the PM backing a campaign to screen it in schools and in Parliament: itv.com/news/2025-03-19/starme

Our nation's silly reliance on TV dramas to prompt us to take issues seriously does sometimes result in genuine good being done. I hope this is one of those times, because this is one of the massive cultural issues of our time.

At today's #PMQs, Zarah Sultana quotes #Starmer's words "#Israel does have that right to cut off electricity and water to #Gaza" she then gives an enumeration of Israel's crimes against #Gaza and culminates asking, "In light of these facts does the Prime Minister agree Israel is committing genocide?"

Starmer says he is appalled by Israel blocking aid when it is needed, and "we are doing everything we can to alleviate that situation"

This is a better response than one of a few years ago

Richard Burgon, at today's #PMQs, says, "rather than make chaneges to #welfarebenefits, the courageous thing to do would be to introduce a wealth tax on the very wealthiest in society"

#Starmer, in reply, refers to the non doms tax, which was weakened, and the raising of passenger duty on private jets, which raises bugger all

He then offers Burgon a sticking plaster and a gobstopper

Regarding the #Ukraine situation and discussions about a peace deal, at today's #PMQs Dave Doogan (SNP) asked #Starmer "what assurance can he give this house that the President of the United States is actually listening,"

Starmer replies that he "was pleased support for Ukraine was put back in"

I thought that happened because of yesterday's conference in Saudia Arabia, one that we were not invited to

Ed Davey asks #Starmer at today's #PMQs to show solidarirty with Canada regarding the worldwide imposition of iron and aluminium tarrifs, and stand up to #Trump

#Starmer replies, in his very best mouse voice, "We will take a pragmatic approach and keep all options on the table."

Tosser

Ed Davey asks #Starmer at today's #PMQs to confirm that "the disability benefit will not be cut for those who simply can not work"

#Starmer replies, "We will support those who can not work as well as support those who can work back into work"

I am reading this as further tests and evaluations as to whether someone is disabled or not

More stress
More bureaucracy

At today's #PMQs, John Slinger (Lab) sets things up for the #WelfareBenefits changes

"Will the Prime Minister set out how this government will give everyone who is able to work the support they need, provide compassion for those who can't work, and fix the broken welfare system?"

#Starmer replies, "We inherited a system that is broken morally and economically."

#Kendall goes "hear hear" to this and returns to her bubbling cauldron

LD Mike Martin asks a question in today's #PMQs about missing #Ukranian children

He asks whether British peacekeeping soldiers should only deploy if the children are brought back home

#Starmer confirms the peace deal must include dealing with this subject for a "lasting and just peace"
