Good morning.

As an adult, I often find myself amused by the sly, grown-up humor tucked into the cartoon names of my childhood—clever touches I completely missed at the time. Take Underdog’s girlfriend, for instance: Sweet Polly Purebred. That name carries more wink than I ever realized. Or think back to Wacky Races, with characters like Penelope Pitstop and the infamous Dick Dastardly. And who could forget his wheezy-voiced sidekick, Muttley—that sly, snickering trickster of a dog. Speaking of cartoon dogs, remember Snuffles from Quick Draw McGraw? Technically a sidekick, but only when bribed. Whenever he got a dog biscuit from Quick Draw, he’d hug himself, float in ecstasy, and release a blissful “Mmm-mmm!”—a reaction not unlike the sheer joy of real dogs when they get a treat.
