#Trump told allies that he was unhappy w/the press coverage but…he did not want to be seen as caving to [the] media….& he said he was reluctant to fire people in snr ranks so early in his 2nd term.

But…the real problem did not appear to be his #NationalSecurity adviser’s carelessness about discussing #military plans on a commercial app….It was that #MikeWaltz may have had some kind of connection to #JeffreyGoldberg, a… #journalist whom Trump loathes…[because] Waltz had Goldberg’s number….

#Trump’s instructions to his team late this week remained to attack #JeffreyGoldberg & #TheAtlantic, & not “produce a scalp” by firing any members of his Cabinet, in the words of one outside adviser consulted by the White House who described the discussions to us.

The Atlantic · Trump Resists Giving Up a 'Scalp' in SignalgateBy Isaac Stanley-Becker

4/4 "Goldberg [...] does recall meeting Waltz—twice. “I’ve met him, I think, twice in my life. Not recently, probably; like a couple of years ago,”

The photo (2021) shows Waltz smiling up at the French philosopher speaking from the podium. Right behind the national security adviser was Goldberg, standing with his hand in his pocket.

But then came #Hegseth’s initial response to the disclosures. He attacked #JeffreyGoldberg, #TheAtlantic editor, as a “so-called journalist,” & sought refuge in a semantic argument, saying that he had never disclosed “war plans.”

So on Wed, The Atlantic published the actual text of what he had written.

Hegseth texted at 11:44AM the day of the attack: “1215et: F-18s LAUNCH (1st strike package)”

30 minutes before it happened.

🚨 Must read: Timothy Snyder on #SignalGate:

"Signalgate: violating national security in order to violate rights"

'Our government is openly compromising our national security, the better to violate our rights. Its position is that it is worth risking the lives of soldiers abroad in order to be able to persecute civilians at home."

Thinking about... · Signalgate: violating national securityBy Timothy Snyder

In the #Signal text exchange revealed by #JeffreyGoldberg today, #MichaelWaltz refers to the "team in MAL". I'm really curious to know what/whom he's referring to.
Also, this guy seems to pile up way too many fuck-ups for me to just let it go. Something's up, and I just can't seem to put my finger on what that is. Actually, I think an argument can be made that Waltz invited Goldberg INTENTIONALLY, and made a point of mentioning MAL. Why?
Sigh, I'm tired

"Der Spiegel reporters were able to find mobile phone numbers, email addresses and even some passwords belonging to [America's] top officials."

Just wildly speculating here but it feels like if you combine this with the Signal "linked devices" attack, you get a scenario where [someone] might have pwned #MikeWaltz's phone and used their access to publicly embarrass him by adding #JeffreyGoldberg to the group chat.

Secy of #State #MarcoRubio said in remarks today in Jamaica that someone made a “big mistake” adding #TheAtlantic's editor-in-chief to the #Signal chat that contained info about a #military attack on the #Houthis in #Yemen.

Unlike everyone else in the #Trump admin, he didn’t defame #JeffreyGoldberg.

"Obviously, someone made a mistake. Someone made a big mistake & added a journalist. Nothing against journalists, but you ain’t supposed to be on that thing," Rubio said.
