#Putin’s #Russia: first arrests under new #AntiLGBT laws mark new era of #repression

"Just over three decades after Russia #decriminalised #homosexuality in 1993, three people have been arrested and charged under the country’s harsh new anti-#LGBT laws and could face ten years in prison for membership of an '#ExtremistOrganisation'.

"The arrests are a clear indication of how Russia has come full circle on its persecution of sexual minorities under Vladimir Putin.

"On March 21, the district court of Orenburg city in south-western Russia ordered the arrest of nightclub owner #VyacheslavKhasanov. The nightclub, which is called #Pose, has never explicitly identified as a gay club – styling itself as a 'parody theatre bar', it hosted parties with #DragQueen artists and go-go dancers as entertainment.

"In a press release announcing the arrest, the court said that as the owner of the club, Khasanov organised participation in an extremist organisation, 'acting as the leader of an organised group of persons by prior conspiracy'. The specific actions included organising the work of such premises, and publishing photos and videos from performances 'promoting non-traditional sexual relationships and preferences'. Khasanov was arrested at the airport when trying to flee the country.

"His arrest followed the arrest and detention of two of his employees. The club’s art director, #AlexanderKlimov, and administrator #DianaKamelyanova were arrested and sentenced to two-months pre-trial detention for, the Orenburg court said, 'promoting #nontraditional sexual relations among the visitors of the bar.'"

So, assuming the #Ceasefire between #Israel and #Hamas holds (and that reparations are made to #Palestinian victims -- but don't hold your breath), what if all the folks who came out for #FreePalestine team up with #ClimateActivists and #HumanRightsActivists and #GBLTQ activists and #WomensRights activists and call for change -- while we still have the #RightToProtest. Not sure what the future holds, but all that #Project2025 and laws for #SilencingDissent are still hanging over our heads... (And not just in the #US...) (And yes, kudos to everyone who showed up in #WashingtonDC today -- you rock!)

#Montana Supreme Court upholds lower court ruling that allows gender-affirming care for minors

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — "A Montana law banning gender-affirming medical care for #transgender minors will remain temporarily blocked, the state Supreme Court ruled Wednesday, after justices unanimously agreed with a lower court judge who found the law likely violates the state’s constitutional right to privacy.

"The case against the Montana law now goes to trial before District Court Judge Jason Marks in Missoula.

"'I will never understand why my representatives are working to strip me of my rights and the rights of other transgender kids,' Phoebe Cross, a 17-year-old transgender boy and lead plaintiff, said in a statement. 'Just living as a trans teenager is difficult enough, the last thing me and my peers need is to have our rights taken away.'

"The attorney general’s office said it looks forward to defending the law, with a spokesperson noting there are recent scientific and legal developments that fall in the state’s favor. This comes as the British government on Wednesday indefinitely banned puberty blockers for children with gender dysphoria, citing an unacceptable safety risk."

“I like to work on the land and show hunting stories when I dance,” Mary Ann Manatch, a woodland traditional dancer from Wiikwemkoong and Rapid Lake First Nations, says. Their unique dance style also incorporates elements from men’s traditional dance. Manatch said telling stories of animals through dance, connects them to the spirit of those animals.

@skua So, I explained to him that when I was 6 years old, I identified as the husband to two wives -- one was a boy, one was a girl. And they were both into it. We played house together and it felt right. The boy ended up liking other boys, and my girl-wife ended up liking girls, and I always liked both. And when I hear about kids today being themselves and others who would suppress them, I get both sad and angry. I will defend each and every one of those kids! They deserve to be themselves!
