"Just over three decades after Russia #decriminalised #homosexuality in 1993, three people have been arrested and charged under the country’s harsh new anti-#LGBT laws and could face ten years in prison for membership of an '#ExtremistOrganisation'.

"The arrests are a clear indication of how Russia has come full circle on its persecution of sexual minorities under Vladimir Putin.

"On March 21, the district court of Orenburg city in south-western Russia ordered the arrest of nightclub owner #VyacheslavKhasanov. The nightclub, which is called #Pose, has never explicitly identified as a gay club – styling itself as a 'parody theatre bar', it hosted parties with #DragQueen artists and go-go dancers as entertainment.

"In a press release announcing the arrest, the court said that as the owner of the club, Khasanov organised participation in an extremist organisation, 'acting as the leader of an organised group of persons by prior conspiracy'. The specific actions included organising the work of such premises, and publishing photos and videos from performances 'promoting non-traditional sexual relationships and preferences'. Khasanov was arrested at the airport when trying to flee the country.

"His arrest followed the arrest and detention of two of his employees. The club’s art director, #AlexanderKlimov, and administrator #DianaKamelyanova were arrested and sentenced to two-months pre-trial detention for, the Orenburg court said, 'promoting #nontraditional sexual relations among the visitors of the bar.'"

"The Arizona Two Spirit Powwow returned to #PhoenixArizona on Saturday, February 22, to spotlight Indigenous #LGBTQ+ and two-spirit people for a day of cultural celebration and community.

"Hosted at South Mountain Community College, the event welcomed dancers, drum groups and attendees from across the region. More than just a traditional gathering, the powwow allowed two-spirit individuals to celebrate their identities and honor their place in Indigenous culture.

“'This (powwow) is a perfect example of a #SafeSpace for people to come and dance in whatever category they want to dance in, dress the way that they feel good about themselves, love who they want to love, and they are safe here. This tells the community we are here, we are here for you,' Sheila Lopez said.

"Lopez is the founder of Arizona’s first Two Spirit Powwow and the first Native chapter of #PFLAG, which bills itself as the country’s largest advocacy organization that supports LGBTQ+ individuals and their families.

"President Donald Trump’s recent executive actions have left #transgender and two-spirit communities uncertain about their rights and recognition going forward.

"'It is super important right now with the administration, what they’re doing to pretty much wipe away trans people. It’s super critical right now for us to continue to show up in the community, to say we’re here, we’re not going anywhere and you can’t erase us, period,' Lopez said."

WASHINGTON (AP) — "Legislation that aimed to bar transgender women and girls nationwide from participating in school athletic competitions designated for female athletes failed to advance Monday night in a divided Senate as Democrats stood united against an issue that Republicans leveraged in last year’s elections.

"A test vote on the bill failed to gain the 60 votes needed to advance in the chamber as senators stuck to party lines in a 51-45 vote tally.

"The bill sought to determine #TitleIX protections 'based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.' The vote came as Republicans have homed in repeatedly on the social cause, casting it as an issue of ensuring athletic fairness for women and girls.

"President Donald #Trump signed an executive order last month giving federal agencies wide latitude to ensure entities that receive federal funding abide by Title IX in alignment with the administration’s view, which interprets 'sex' as the gender someone was assigned at birth.

"Still, Republicans in Congress have set their sights on enshrining that policy into law by amending the 1972 Title IX law, which protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance."

"Members of the two-spirit, Indigiqueer, and Indigenous #transgender communities are mourning the death of a non-binary 16-year-old teen in Oklahoma earlier this month.

"#NexBenedict died the day after a violent confrontation in a high school bathroom in Owasso, Okla., near Tulsa. Owasso police said in a statement preliminary autopsy results indicate the teen did not die as a result of injuries sustained in the fight.

"Benedict's mother is enrolled with the #ChoctawNation of Oklahoma and the school where the incident took place is located within the #CherokeeNation reservation. Benedict's family said Benedict experienced #bullying from their classmates due to their gender identity.

"The story has sparked cross-border reaction from #2SLGBTQ+ community members, reflecting on their own experiences as well as the current climate for #IndigenousYouth.

"'Many of us are in mourning,' said Jade Lacosse, an Anishinaabe and adopted Tlingit two-spirit trans woman in Whitehorse.

"'This was a young child that very few of us were directly connected to but they're still a relative, they are still a two-spirit relative in the way that our community sees things. Something that affects one of us affects all of us.'

"Lacosse said the statement from police appears to be about placing blame rather than taking responsibility for discrimination.

"'A young two-spirit child, one of our relations, died … and it's a direct result of #transphobia," Lacosse said.

"'The way that they died doesn't change that.'"

What I want in a #Election2024 Presidential candidate?

1. Someone who can win against #Trump.

2. Someone who acknowledges that #ClimateChange is real, and knows that it is important to protect the #Environment.

3. Someone who will stand up for #GBLTQRights, #HumanRights, and #WomensRights.

4. Someone who respects #TribalLeaders and will listen to them.

5. Someone who will push for #Renewables.

There are other things that I haven't listed that I'd like to see. But I think these are the most important issues. Yes, I know #TheEconomy and #Inflation are important to folks -- but remember... There are no jobs on a dead planet (or one with an unstable atmosphere).

"The mother of Nex Benedict — the #NonBinary #Oklahoma teen who was assaulted in a school bathroom and died the following day — is raising doubts about statements released by the local police. On Wednesday, the Owasso Police posted a statement to the department's Facebook page, which appeared to defend the Owasso High School's response to the February 7 incident. The statement also suggested that Nex's death the following day was unrelated to the bathroom assault. In a text exchange with Popular Information, Sue Benedict, Nex's mother, said she considered the Owasso Police statement a "big cover" and believed it was only released as "something to calm the people."

"Benedict said the Owasso Police did not contact her before releasing the statement, which included "preliminary information from the medical examiner’s office." According to the statement, although the medical examiner has not made a determination about the cause of death, the preliminary information "indicated that the decedent [Nex Benedict] did not die as a result of trauma."

"Separately, an attorney representing Nex Benedict's family released a statement that the facts of the case "are troubling at best." The attorney said that not all the facts have been released to the public and that the family would conduct its own investigation, including "independently interviewing witnesses and collecting all available evidence."
