TunesList

@LostReflector have seen them live twice now ~ they are focusing almost solely on very traditional (in intentional contrast to the most of them do in their other bands) it's cool to see their excellence in this more historical genre also

@tuneslist @LostReflector Love Mighty Poplar. It's definitely a modern day #bluegrass supergroup if there ever was one.

@aburtch @LostReflector when saw them at the Fox had 2 fiddle players - Alex Hargreaves + John Mailander (who recently learned contributed a bunch on Home album pre-Alex) ~ they did a similar fiddle duel at the Van Andel Scramble ~ here's the video from the Fox (reportedly the first ever show)

@tuneslist @aburtch @LostReflector I saw Mailander with Jeff Mosier and friends at Suwannee last month - it was probably my favorite set of the fest, so uplifting. I think Billy tried to get Mailander to join the band before Alex but he has a stable gig with Bruce Hornsby (and maybe wanted to pursue his own thing too). They're both terrific fiddlers!

@LostReflector ps in fact had a brief conversation with Chris "Critter" Eldridge about this and he mentioned how these players first got together back in 2019 or something at a festival I think and decided they wanted to create a band to show off their love for old-timey but then took over 2 years to get the album done because they were all so busy with their main projects + the pandemic interruptions of course

@tuneslist @LostReflector so very similar in spirit and reason to the formation of the Bluegrass Album Band, then. Which makes total sense.

@mrcompletely @tuneslist yeah stuff I read (including that NPR article) specifically mentions the Bluegrass Album Band

@tuneslist @LostReflector buddy of mine is close to Critter’s folks and obtained a copy of the Mighty Poplar record not too long ago. It’s terrific.
