oh nice this is definitely getting spun today. new 'supergroup' of grass players called Mighty Poplar
@LostReflector have seen them live twice now ~ they are focusing almost solely on very traditional #bluegrass (in intentional contrast to the #newgrass #jamgrass #spacegrass #classicalgrass most of them do in their other bands) it's cool to see their excellence in this more historical genre also
@tuneslist @LostReflector Love Mighty Poplar. It's definitely a modern day #bluegrass supergroup if there ever was one.
@aburtch @LostReflector when saw them at the Fox had 2 fiddle players - Alex Hargreaves + John Mailander (who recently learned contributed a bunch on #BillyStrings Home album pre-Alex) ~ they did a similar fiddle duel at the Van Andel Scramble ~ here's the video from the Fox (reportedly the first ever #MightyPoplar show)
@tuneslist @aburtch @LostReflector I saw Mailander with Jeff Mosier and friends at Suwannee last month - it was probably my favorite set of the fest, so uplifting. I think Billy tried to get Mailander to join the band before Alex but he has a stable gig with Bruce Hornsby (and maybe wanted to pursue his own thing too). They're both terrific fiddlers!
