Today's #PhotoOfTheDay takes us to Gotland in Sweden.

Visby has a large number of ruined churches but the one that I found the most beautiful was the Gothic S:ta Karin ruin (Saint Catherine's ruin). Originally constructed by the Franciscan Order in the 13th century but never completed it was dedicated to St Catherine of Alexandria.

We are standing in the apse of a ruined medieval cathedral looking up at the remains on the roof. Around us the stonework of the glassless thin windows reaches up for the missing vault. A few ribs stretch across the building providing hints of the majesty of the building before it fell into ruin . The blue sky is visible through the missing roof.
