#trackball

Bought a Kensington slimblade #trackball the other day. Fallen in love with the whole twist the ball to scroll thing. I was worried it would not be sensitive enough which led to a fair bit of umming and ahhing. Works in a very intuitive manner. I often find myself with one finger on top of the ball while twisting the ball with another.

Question for trackball users: Should I get a trackball mouse? I need a mouse that doesn't move.

I have never used one. I'm willing to deal with the learning curve.

Most of the time I'm a keyboard-only user, but I like to work on photography from time to time. Photo processing software is, of course, very mouse intensive.

My desk is very small and the mouse with its mouse-pad don't fit very well, specially when a notepad, a cellphone or camera is part of the workflow and it's on the desk too, next to the mouse. But, on the other hand, a trackball doesn't move.

I'm trying to do my own research, but the paid reviews are getting in my way, and I can't always differentiate between a genuine user reporting the benefits of a trackball or a "review".

Trackball users, will it solve the "my desk is too small" problem?

@qlp personally, I wished @frameworkcomputer would give #SprinTek a call and get themselves some #TrackPoint instead of the #TrackPad as an option.

  • IDK maybe make it green or pink so neither #Lenovo (red) nor #hp (black) nor #Dell (blue) nor #Getac (orange) nor #Sony (gray) can complain.

They can't call it #UltraNav either but what about #SmolNav or #ProNav or something.

  • Worst-case they'd have to make a "T H I C C" Edition with a #Perixx #Trackball instead.

#Trackball users: just curious if I'm the crazy one, or if it is the world that is crazy. I find this thing basically unusable without taping over the incredibly grippy feet. Are the grips a feature for you? Or do you prefer the freedom to fidget unhindered? (dw I am well aware that I am, in fact, irrevocably insane, but humour me)

Note: my phone could not tell what to focus on, so it chose "nothing" lmao

Once you remove the rest of the screws holding the board in, you can gently remove it (the battery spring is a bit fiddly) and flip it over.

I heat the solder points with my iron and use a solder-sucker to remove as much solder as I can from the three leads

(then I can just wiggle them free)

Make sure to solder the new one in the correct orientation
