Also—and I really don’t want to sound like a BlueskyBro here—is there any software that implements custom timelines in the Fediverse, such as the super cool ones Bluesky has?

It would be super cool if lists could be made not only of profiles, but also of hashtags and keywords, ideally even having custom algorithms, too!

I really like this (I've just started it), the premise is stepping off a train in the 19th century, from Glasgow to London, but you can't remember your past, except you're pretty sure you weren't enslaved in a French colony... the protagonist is puzzled but curious, trying to find their way back from an unexpectedly different reality.

@AtcherleyONS

I ended up with a similar #SurnameStudy for one of the names in my #FamilyTree: Freligh (Froelich/Freleigh/Fraleigh/etc).

I began with an existing compiled printed #genealogy, but I've found a lot more than what's there, over the years. I've even discovered an error in the printed genealogy.

I also created a #timeline to organize all the various surname matches I found which were the same first name as my ancestors. (There were a lot of John, Henry, William, & George Frelighs in early 1800s America, apparently.)

I highly recommend making #timelines when researching genealogy. It was by doing so that I caught the error in the original document. It also explained WHY my ancestors made various life decisions (such as moving to different cities & changing jobs), when I put their life events right next to historical events.

For the other #timeline files: one is just a simple #Word / #GoogleDocs list, sorted by date.

Another is a #Trello Board with FileCards, also sorted by date. The #Trello columns are each for a different first name-- a column for all the Henrys, another for all the Williams, etc. Each of those columns is sorted by date. The last column is for misc first names.

The Trello cards can be placed in multiple columns, & updates to one can be automatic to everywhere else that information appears.

[Trello as an app that allows you to create a kind of electronic corkboard, where you can put electronic filecards. (I think some people call it a #Kanban board?) The cards hold almost as much data and text as you like, and you can attach images of documents, photos, etc to each card. You can have as many columns as you like. The example here is just a screenshot of some of them in my file.]

So glad I decided to cancel my free trial of @ivory and deleted the #app now that I read a post from one of #Ivory's owners gushing over #Threads and eagerly anticipating #ActivityPub integration with #Meta / #Instagram.

He's not concerned with #privacy issues that might cause (fair enough), and the only thing he dislikes about #Facebook and Instagram are the #timelines and #ads.

The #white #male (#cishet?) #privilege on this topic is overwhelming.

Nonchalance and glee.

I'm getting the image of a tall complex building first slowly then rapidly dissolving as it's foundations liquefy.

@davidslifka @algorithms

Same page... Yes indeed 🙂 didn't read into your post deeply enough.

For many [FOSSies], as you know, #algorithms is a trigger word. My mind stopped (comprehensively) processing after that lolz.

Have you taken some time to checkout how #Misskey and #Calckey have incorporated their innovative notion of "Antennas"? Calckey has added even more facilities towards that notion as well.

It's worth taking a look 🙂

Another big #tip I have for people who are coming here from #Twitter in the #TwitterMigration is to not lament #QTs because they were part of what was bad there and Mastadon has a better fuction (once you get used to it).

#Boost pushes it to the top of #TimeLines like a #Retweet over there. But then, reply with #hashtags that you think apply. That automatically puts the toot in a bunch of other timelines for those topics increasing both the #reach and the #relevance.
