Taunton, who has more than 177,000 followers on X and more than 140,000 YouTube subscribers, is one of at least a dozen influencers who have been “swatted” in the last two weeks. Swatting is a crime that involves making a bogus emergency call claiming a horrific emergency is taking place – often a shooting – to draw police and first responders to a person’s home.

FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X last week that the FBI is “already taking action to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.”

“This isn’t about politics—weaponizing law enforcement against ANY American is not only morally reprehensible but also endangers lives, including those of our officers,” he wrote. “That will not be tolerated.”

Gerade weil die #Polizei entsprechend #Macht & #Gewalt ausüben kann ist es umso wichtiger #Verantwortung vorzuleben und bei Fehlverhalten echte #Konsequenzen zu ziehen.

Gerade deshalb ist es essentiell für die Polizei entsprechendes #Vertrauen zu erarbeiten, statt mit immer mehr #Gewalt-#Exzessen aufzufallen...

Rep Elissa #Slotkin was targeted in a "#swatting" hoax Thurs evening.

#Michigan State Police responded to Slotkin's home after a "false threat" that was emailed to a local elected ofcl. Slotkin was not home at the time.

This is a #travestyOfJustice. This #British guy made a fake call to a US #terrorism hotline with the intention of "#swatting" a fellow #gamer in America. The #SWATteam actually showed up and shot the intended target in the face resulting in permenant disfigurement. The #UK court sentenced him to 2mo in jail, and £1000 in compensation to the victim. That's nothing. That's not even a slap on the wrist for the lifelong damages he caused.

Federal agents have located a person of interest in over 100 #swatting #calls, which included calls targeting  Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro #Mayorkas, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure and Security Agency Director Jen #Easterly and other senior Biden administration officials, according to law enforcement officials.

I followed up on death threats to Colorado Secretary of State #JenaGriswold after reading @foser article on how the media is disconnected from threats to judges & election officials.
Still no arrests on her #Swatting attempt from over a month ago.

Her request for more funding for security for her office was rejected.

There were 2 arrests from earlier threats. One led to 2 years probation the other 18 months in prison.
When threats aren't seriously prosecuted it sends a message, Keep doing it!
