Toads often migrate between 500 and 1500 meters, but they can sometimes even migrate as far as 3000 meters.

I finally encountered some live Ambystoma gracile (northwestern salamander) yesterday! They were out in force around a local lake, now that the temperatures have stayed above freezing for several nights in a row. Beautiful animals.

Info: The axolotl is a Mexican amphibian species with a tail that lives in water. Most animals undergo a metamorphosis in order to transition from life in the water to life on land. Not so the axolotl, because it does not develop lungs. Instead, axolotls hatch from eggs into a juvenile form that develops into their adult form. Axolotls retain their gills and are constantly in the water. An adult axolotl (18 to 24 months old in the wild) is between 15 and 45 centimetres long. An adult specimen weighs between 2 and 8 ounces. Males and females also differ in coloration.

Wenn's halt wirklich wichtig ist, wie zB für "optimale Rennstrecken" bei einer SchiWM, geht so viel in Österreich.

Es gibt in der Gegend ja auch sonst keine Pisten, die für Schirennen genutzt werden könnten.

Removed this large Fire Salamander from the well.

It either lived there (the well is mostly dry due to a leak) or it got syphoned into it with today's heavy #rain. It was resting on top of the only bit of rock that stood above the water surface.

Any advice on how/where to release this fella? I know they need access to water so I might need to find a stream or pond of sorts in the vicinity.
