Check out all the fun webpages I used to give my new site that awesome late 1990s and early 2000s vibe!

- gifcities.org — This is a super cool project by the Internet Archive (@internetarchive) where you can search for classic animated GIFs from old Geocities sites. There are so many sparkly, wacky, and nostalgic GIFs to explore!

- cyber.dabamos.de/88x31/ — Dive into a massive collection of 88x31 buttons, all with those classic 90s and 2000s ad styles. It’s like a digital sticker book!

- anlucas.neocities.org/88x31But — Here’s another cute collection of 88x31 buttons if you want some more retro flair.

And here’s my website: midtsveen.codeberg.page! I’m not wild about the codeberg.page domain, but honestly, I’m not in the mood to pay for a custom one anymore. Oh well, retro web life, right? I’ll get used to it! ✨

I never used Facebook etc. but from what I can tell the fediverse social experience is very different from corporate social media. It feels more like the old web.

Like shopping at Walmart vs. shopping at a variety of shops downtown. The difference isn't just an ethical one, the human experience on Mastodon, Pixelfed etc. is richer and more diverse too.

I love the NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day website. It's OG 90s, complete with HMTL tables. It's probably an accessibility nightmare. But it is web history completely alive and well.

Their RSS feed linked at the bottom of their
main page (the one with today's picture) however is not a valid one and does not work. But there's another one listed on the About page: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod.rss This one works.

They have an official bot here in the fedi:

Mastodon has the character of the "old" web, where you click on a link and you're down a rabbit hole of (new) information. There's always one tab on Mastodon open, very risky, for during breaks when painting. Sometimes it leads to nothing new and I get back to the easel, other times it becomes dark outside and my brushes turn crispy.

💙 Flashback Friday #3 💙 – Geocities & Angelfire

Before social media took over, Geocities and Angelfire were where the internet’s real creativity happened. These free web hosting platforms let people build anything they wanted—from personal diaries to deep-dive fan shrines to completely bizarre conspiracy hubs.
