Dear #lazymastodon and #retrogaming folks. I had a request from a friend who has a bar with a game room who is looking to buy industrial/commercial/military/kid-proof/pro strength arcade machines?

He would love a solid console or few that might let you play a bunch of old classic games. He would set it to allow free play.

I know you can buy joysticks and buttons etc. and build/buy #misterfpga stuff etc. But he isn't a maker and would prefer to just buy an indestructible and awesome machine.

Lee Smith's Workshop posts videos about restoring retro computers (especially 8-bit and 16-bit machines), 3D printing, MiSTer, FPGA, electronics and related topics. You can follow at:

After fighting for way too long to try to get DHCP reservation to actually work on the MiSTer FPGA with a defined MAC address, I finally just hardcoded the thing in /etc/dhcpcd.conf and put in the DNS settings in /etc/resolv.conf.tail

The 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4 controller just doesn't cut it for retro games as there is no way to map the analog sticks to D-Pad. The location of the D-Pad makes my left thumb ache and the smaller A/B/X/Y buttons aren't great either.

I switched to the wired 8BitDo Pro 2 controller and it's a big step up. I just need to get a wireless version of that controller so don't have to sit so close to the TV.
